Re: Did the extremely rigid rules of lyrical and opera singing limit the emotional expressivity of the opera singers
I don't think anybody involved actively or passively with any kind of music would classify their genre as having a "focus on strict technical performance of an established canon". Everybody who loves a certain type of music, loves it for what it does to them emotionally. Especially in oper...

Re: Did the extremely rigid rules of lyrical and opera singing limit the emotional expressivity of the opera singers
Funny question for an opera singer, and I voted, instinctively, yes. The funny thing is: these rigid rules do not, in fact, exist, but a lot of people in charge in the opera business behave as if they do. The only thing that's really strict, but this is true for the whole of classical music, also in...

Re: When will the next AM update be?
Some really great lists have been posted recently (most of them by stefanocarraro) that will give a huge boost to underexposed countries and genres. For me the goal with the 10,000 songs update is to expand the musical palette, so it would feel wrong to make the update and skip many Italian, Spanis...

Re: Is it so important have a perfect pitch?
I feel it depends on the style of music. I'm an opera singer by profession. In classical music it is important, more so in 16th century madrigals and a lot of modern music and a bit less so singing opera. For the Beach Boys it is more important than for Bob Dylan or Lou Reed. I love Dylan and Reed. ...

Re: Help wanted: Categorize acts as bands or artists
Here are the I's. I'd be happy to continue, but indeed if I would do it on my own it would take several months. So if anyone should care to join, please do, but start with Z, so we don't do the same job twice .

Re: Errors in the July 2014 update
Little erratum: number 4431 on the Songs List is posted as: Malcolm X (artist), No Sell Out (song), whereas in 1983 Malcolm X had been dead for 18 years and drummer Keith LeBlanc made "one of the first sample-based releases" (Wikipedia) by the title "No Sell Out", using samples o...
