Re: Artist of the Month Song/Album Polls-December '19, The Beatles!

I heard most of the Beatles’ output during my junior year of high school – pretty much the best possible time. Albums: 1. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Revolver 3. A Hard Day’s Night 4. Rubber Soul 5. The Beatles 6. Abbey Road 7. With the Beatles 8. Please Please Me 9. Help! 10. Magical M...

Re: Hall of Acclaim 2018!

Item #2 I noticed that there was no Backstage winner at all for a couple of years, due to too much vote-splitting. The wait between one poll and the next was very short, at one time; now that we're all caught up since the Class of 1960, and each new Class is playing out in real time, there's no way...

The Rolling Stones – Lady Jane

9

This makes me think of what the Rolling Stones would have been like hundreds of years ago. (Notice there are 3 women worked into the song.) This is in fact the borrowed tune from Neil Young's "Borrowed Tune," from the Tonight's the Night album.

Right now, there are a few things I wanted to bring up, all regarding the Backstage Act nominations. I felt like the Ba...

Wait, where dafuq are "Video Games" and "Pyramids."

Apparently the Monkees are still dropping singles.

Do you have to like lyrics more than melody to think that "All Too Well" is Taylor Swift's best song, because I think that's how Rob Sheffield works. The tune seemed pretty average to me.

Re: RollingStone (US) - The 100 Best Albums of the 2010s

Kind of early on their part. The presumption is they won't miss anything in December, but they would have failed the London Calling test (Dec. 14, 1979), and for that matter Let It Bleed (Dec. 5, 1969). Other famous albums released late in the year (although not at the end of the decade) include Rub...

A major part of this conversation would have to be where the 2010s would even go next time. Does it additionally show up as usual in 2023 (3 major polls for it in a handful of years)? My "con" argument against the '10s being cycled next is that we will have just done a substantial '10s poll (and would we cycle back normally to the '10s again in 2023 -- or much later?). My "pro" argument is that if a bunch of '10s polls would risk being a retread, another '70s poll could certainly...
