At the risk of repeating myself, it's worth noting that Buckley was actually inspired by John Cale's cover version of the song, and in fact appropriates the alternate Cohen-penned verses Cale used into his (Buckley's) own version. My 25 favourite songs of 2019 so far (and I thought I might as well add brief comments)... Excellent list, Dan! It was the soundtrack (both during the car trip and then with headphones) to our visit to the impressive Praia das Catedrais (Cathedrals Beach) , so these songs will always be tied for me...
