Re: UMT 2012: Genre #32 - Synth Pop

Would vote for The Killers in an "alternative" category..but not in synth pop...hence they didn't get a vote from me.

I tend to consider it synth pop only when the keyboards/electronics are the predominant instrument and I don't think that's the case with Flowers and company...

Re: UMT 2012: Regional #1

1) BOB DYLAN (gets over because I usually like at least 1 track on anything I’ve heard of his..U2 is spottier IMHO) 2) U2 3) FIONA APPLE 4) GARTH BROOKS (mostly on the strength of his 1st 3 albums) 5) NEIL YOUNG (still have a lot of his albums yet to hear) 6) CROSBY, STILLS AND NASH 7) PINK FLOYD (I...

Re: UMT 2012: Genre #27 - 80's Pop

Though I’m too late to fit into the rankings, I’m offering my list for the heck of it. I used the artist’s 80s output as my criterion so though I like Pat Benatar a bit more than it would appear, my most favored stuff is primarily 70s era so it hurts her. I’m doing this based on memory so if I’ve li...

Re: UMT 2012: Genre #28 - Post-Grunge

I have to confess being unfamiliar with a decent number of these. Even those I am familiar with are more “singles” artists for me than album artists (I.e. The Lemonheads with the exception of the great album IT’S A SHAME ABOUT RAY.)

1) Cake
2) Weezer
3) Pearl Jam
4) The Lemonheads
5) Foo Fighters

Re: UMT 2012: Genre #25 - Traditional Country

17 - Alabama A little disappointing...I don't really consider them "traditional" country, more of the beginning of the contemporary sound. They had quite a few pop crossovers back in the day and it's not hard to hear why in my opinion. Not denigrating pop, just saying they veered frequent...

Here's my 5:

1) The Clash
2) The Ramones
3) Green Day
4) Television
5) The Offspring

Re: UMT 2012: Genre #25 - Traditional Country

Although I really like traditional country I still feel like somewhat of a novice so this list could very well change quite a bit in the next 5 years. Here's how I esteem them at the moment: 1 JOHNNY CASH 2) WILLIE NELSON 3) BUCK OWENS 4) HANK WILLIAMS 5) GEORGE JONES Just outside the 5: CONWAY TWIT...

Re: Davey Jones

I would go as far as calling myself a Monkees "fan" and own a pretty good dollop of their material (box set/HEADQUARTERS/HEAD/JUSTUS/several others). I admit much of what they released was pretty lightweight fluff but their best stuff is holding up as well as a lot of the pop from that day...

Re: Unacclaimed Week 33: Semifinal #2

I can't recall WHEN I was introducted to "Sinnerman" but I'm sure it was on the recommendation of someone in this forum. I only know that it's growing in my esteeem with each airing. I could see it becoming one of my all-time favorite tracks given enough time. The Lal Waterson track isn't ...
