Re: Albums of 2014
Kind of like the film Salo or the book Tropic of Cancer, I don't really mind what a work of art is about, as long as it does a good job of being about it. Basically, Ebert's famous quote about the quality of a film not being based on the "what," but the "how." I don't mind shock ...

Yeah, "Love Again" is my least favorite song on that album, although the production on it is great as usual. The Pitchfork review gave me a second interpretation of that song. Whether I fully agree with it or not, I don't know, but the song has grown on me a little. Here's what the review ...

I can understand if someone is taken aback by the lyrical content on Run the Jewels. However, I actually think RTJ2 is one of the most lyrically accomplished rap albums I've heard. If one looks past the violence, misogynism and braggadocio, the album has some of the best line-by-line wordplay and ly...

Run the Jewels 2 was released for free today. I really enjoyed their first album, and this one is even better. It's easily the best hip-hop album of the year so far and I foresee lots of great reviews and a high (top 1500) placement on AM. It's angrier, darker and more sonically adventurous than the...

Grouper's Ruins: album of the year. A cohesive, melancholic and simple song cycle. Very intimate, almost as reveling as mysterious. Remarkable and hard-hitting emotionally in a way few have been in years. Yes, the new Grouper album is excellent, and so is the new Scott Walker/Sunn O))) album. Both ...

I think using red for the ones that fell would be an eye sore, since so many albums would fall at least one or two places each update. We would have MANY red albums, I would think. I did like green for the new entries, rather than the purple now. I also don't want colors for albums that got more rev...

Yep, most people prefer the US configuration (and I admit the US cover is wayyy better and more known). And that is the track list I first heard the album with. But I just love Red House too much to not have it on the album, plus I think it flows perfectly after "Manic Depression." At leas...

I kind of agree with them regarding Oracular Spectacular and White Blood Cells, but Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is to me a masterpiece that still manages to get better with age. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new Iceage album. Compared to the other highly acclaimed music from the past couple of weeks, I feel like it isn't getting the attention it deserves. Re: Mark Kozelek vs. The War on Drugs
Yeah, it's quite clearly tongue-in-cheek. The song is hilarious, and if you know Sun Kil Moon's music (especially the latest album) you know that Kozelek is often sarcastic, dry, and irreverent. Maybe he really was annoyed when it first happened, but the song, and all the attention since then, has a...

It's true that no matter how you listen to the 17 tracks, the songs are nearly all great and it's the quality of the songs that mainly give the album its reputation. However, I have always believed that the order of tracks is just as important to an album's greatness, as much as the songs themselves...

This is a question I've always been interested in, but now that we are doing Rank The Tracks threads for different classic albums and I'm sure Are You Experienced will be done inevitably, I thought I'd ask now. Bumping this because I'm wondering if it's eligible.
