Quite interesting how on some of the lists the individual nationalities clearly shine through. Kinda surprised to see Ozu and Renoir this low. I voted for neither (still haven't seen any Ozu, shame on me) but they are both directors with a big following among cineasts. It just seems like they should have been higher.

Yeah, great presentation so far, Jimmy! Seven directors so far from the top 50 I submitted (eight if we count Cukor's cameo appearance), which is not too bad I guess, though I still have high hopes for the bulk of the rest in my, say, top 34. Pretty good list so far with a lot of cool directors here...

I always looked at Wikipedia, RYM and Allmusic. When their was contradictory information I checked what their sources were and based on that decided, which one probably was the correct version.

"In the Wee Small Hours" is better than "Songs for Swingin' Lovers" though, and it's also way more depressing. Not saying you'll necessarily like it (the songs on it are standards after all) but you might want to give it a shot.

Bach's "Weihnachtsoratorium" is essential. Many traditional German christmas songs are also very beautiful, e.g. "Maria durch ein' Dornwald ging", "Es kommt ein Schiff geladen", "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen", "Ich steh bei deiner Krippen hier", etc.

Le Monde's list is an interesting case by the way since the readers could only choose titles that were included on a starting list of 200 books. Only the jottling down of the whole thing to 100 titles and the ordering were actually done by the public. So according to you, the unordered starting list...
