How many artists are there even who release albums every year anymore?
I wish it still worked like the 60s and 70s. Imagine if every great band released a new album every year.

Great rollout. Responding to comments about Pitchfork’s #1. I think in the last few years they have veered away from the indie critical consensus. Away from the girl folk pop and such and toward the new “Cool”.
They’ve always cared more about the album’s culture than what it sounds like.

Anyone know how to I find the right George Brassens album on US Spotify? Is Chante Le Chansons De Sa Juenesse the same thing? No, it's not the same thing. In Spain the original album is available on Spotify, and also as part of other albums. Try these ones: https://open.spotify.com/album/1Puxbp4aa8...

We can say that the ranking is based on original recorded material, at least. So any modern recording of Tchaikovsky would be a 'Cover album'. :) I don't quite get what you mean with 'original recorded material' in this context. What would constitute 'original recorded material' from the age when r...

There is at least the sense that when you're listening to a performance of, say, Beethoven, the conductor and orchestra are simply carrying out the composer's wishes (otherwise we're pretty fucked and we missed out on Beethoven centuries ago). I wouldn't quite feel wrong putting Tchaikovsky in my t...

I like the 128 album format a lot because it really casts a wide net to find lots of great albums I wouldn't find otherwise, but I agree that if I ever had a job where I couldn't sit and listen to music while I was working there's no way I could listen to all of them.

I don't think anyone's ever complained about 20th century composers who released albums of their own material being included on the poll. In the case of classical composers, it'd be interesting to see what happened, but since the audience for classical composers tends to look down on the music we li...

Neil Young’s selective outrage, at best, will play into the right wing narrative that progressives are the Fun Police, and at worst, could lead to needing to have eight different subscriptions to stream all the music you want instead of one.
