It appears like lots of artists I thought would be here aren't. The aforementioned White Stripes and TV on the Radio for starters, but also LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Wilco, Pavement, Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, and Animal Collective. I understand that you can't have every artist of every genre in the game, but those all seem like pretty big ones to leave out.

Realistically there are enough great artists in this genre to have 4 separate ones. A lot of those artists mentioned fell into other categories, Art Rock, Electronic, Country rock, Synth Pop and I did add Pavement into another genre to strengthen it, you will thank me later. This genre was already so loaded, imagine how difficult it would be to chose just 5 adding those 10 to this genre....

1) Elliott Smith
2) Built to Spill (too bad they don't stand a chance, they are waaaaaay underrated)
3) Arcade Fire
4) Sufjan Stevens
5) Modest Mouse

feels tough leaving Arctic Monkeys and Hives, I wish they were in "00s rock" or something.

Argggghhhh, this was incredibly difficult:

1. Belle & Sebastian
2. Morrissey
3. PJ Harvey
4. Elliott Smith
5. Arcade Fire

I decided that Arcade Fire with only three albums to show could not be ranked too high.
But their next album potentially might take them to the top of my ranking.

I'm shocked The National didn't make it. I guess it's because of Vampire Weekend's 7 email votes to their 2.

Apart from your and mine number one votes, The National barely received any votes here either. I thought The National was more popular on this board. They don't do bad in the polls, usually.
Really a pity.

Damn, The National would've been my #1, but I forgot to vote. Wouldn't have made a difference though.

Well you can't say that the 8 bands/artists that went through usually fared bad on the polls !
