Two questions that need to be asked are why is the Rolling Stone staffed by such poor journalists lacking any kind of appreciation of truly great music ? And of course following on from that where are Steely Dan in this list ?

Good grief, they are easily in the top 100 of the acclaimed music web site, yet can't make this shockingly poor list !

I hate to give the ax to Janis Joplin (#46), considering that we only have two female acts left. But, while she belongs on a Top 100 artist, Joplin feels more like "76-100" artist and we are down to around 40.
