Meniketti still tours regularly and is lightening fast. He is a great guy and was a very friendly and unassuming neighbor.

A special thanks to Mindrocker, whose list introduced me to the wonderfully eerie and menacing “Ciel Ouvert” and its accompanying album. Since “Oh Yeah” was one of my least favorite songs growing up, I was never in a big rush to listen to “Stella.” I didn’t know what I was missing…

Thank you for your comment, jamieW. But yes, honest, folks keep raving about synthesizer acts like Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears while totally forgetting about Yello. Nothing against those former two, they´re fine, but Yello was always so much more adventurous and innovative than the average synthpop band. And Stella is their most complete work. From lush disco tracks like Vicious Games to soundscapes Stalakdrama and Ciel Ouvert, which could have been soundtracks for a suspense movie.

Thank you for your comment, jamieW. But yes, honest, folks keep raving about synthesizer acts like Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears while totally forgetting about Yello. Nothing against those former two, they´re fine, but Yello was always so much more adventurous and innovative than the average synthpop band. And Stella is their most complete work. From lush disco tracks like Vicious Games to soundscapes Stalakdrama and Ciel Ouvert, which could have been soundtracks for a suspense movie.

Yes, I will definitely be digging deeper into Yello’s music. (I only listed 30 songs this month because I didn’t have time to sort the rest, but “Stalakdrama” and “Desire” were also in my Top 100.) I usually know better than to let the few songs I hear on the radio by an artist determine my opinion of them, but I was definitely guilty of that here. The songs I already knew by Yello barely scratched the surface of the depth and experimentation of “Stella.”
