Songs and Albums of 1989 Poll

Post by Listyguy »

Image

Here it is, the final year of the 80’s poll. And it’s none other than 1989

So post your favorite songs and/or albums from the year in this forum so they will (hopefully) make the final poll! Just remember only lists with at least 5 will be counted towards the list and only your first 15 will receive points (but don’t be afraid to give us a longer list).

We also have a recommendation thread if you’re looking for quality cuts or want to force your favorites onto others.

The deadline is midnight (UTC/Forum Time) on December1st.

To advance to the final list, songs/albums must have a minimum of 2 votes. In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will be used.

Please use the following format when posting your list:

Rank. Artist - Album/Song

EPs and compilations are not albums. Discrepancies with this matter as well as the year of a release will be determined by RateYourMusic.

So yeah, I'm opening this one a little bit early because I won't be able to later. But the 1988 poll is still open and will be for 20-24 more hours.

Now your album list only has 4 releases. I can only count lists with at least 5.

Fixed. Again. I really didn't like '89 much, so it seems. Sorry for being a problem child today. Must be the sugar rush from leftover halloween candy.

Thanks slick for giving a perfect example of the question I was going to raise :
Should we vote for B-Boy Bouillabaisse as a song or should we vote separately for each of the songs in it ?
This is pretty much the same question as should we vote for Golden Slumbers or for the Abbey Road medley ! On the original release it was considered as only one track, on the latest reeditions it is split between each songs. Not sure if will make a big difference in the finance score, though I think sonofsamiam too might have B Boy Bouillabaisse in his top.

Ha, I had it at 17, and then noticed this post!

I think it should be 1 track, because that is how it is on the CD, which was its main initial medium. I believe on the Abbey Road LP that the medley has a separate groove on the vinyl for each individual part of the medley ... though I still would group the songs in logical segments based on silence (e.g. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End).

Anyway, I don't think this will have much bearing in the end, though Year In a Day is certainly the best piece of B-Boy Bouillabaise. It seems clear that Paul's Boutique songs will suffer from vote-splitting, unless many people get behind Hey Ladies or Shake Your Rump. (Hopefully the latter.)

I did, I don't enjoy the whole medley as much as this part, so while this single song would be my #2 of year, the whole medley is more along the 19th position !

This is from 1988. It received some votes last month. Feel free to add a new album to replace this.

Also, I was going to consider "13 Songs" a compilation, but since it's AM ranked, I guess it's an album...
