not to be a drag, but I think Comme a la Radio was 1970 (I saw it on at least one list), and Neu! may be 1972(?). Just want to make sure my dates are right... that's how RYM has 'em.

Acclaimedmusic does say 1970, I don't know why it ended up on my list as 1971. But if it's 1971 and my inclusion would have made the difference between top 15 or not, I'd hope it could be retroactively applied.

Replace those two with Jimi Hendrix - Cry of Love and Can - Tago Mago.

1971 is a great year. Two of ten favorite albums (including my all time favorite) are from this year.
On the dark side, it does have Imagine, probably the most acclaimed album/song I have a strong, rooted hatred towards. :angry-banghead:

49. John Lennon – Power to the People

I really couldn't give a rat's ass what year the single was released, since I've bought fewer than a dozen singles in my life and all of my files are listed by album where an album exists. However, I have looked up the appropriate singles date (where applicable) and noted it simply to save everyone from having to read "This post is from Bruce, who is currently on your ignore list" immediately after my post. Only one of these dates affects a scoring position anyway (no. 14) so please note I AM ENTIRELY SATISFIED WITH THE DATES IN MY LIBRARY AND DO NOT REQUIRE NOTICE OF MINOR ERRORS. Thank you.

I also feel a little strange about having four artists with two songs apiece in my top fifteen when 1971 was such a deep year. But they're great songs.

Albums

1. The Who - Who’s Next
2. Carole King - Tapestry
3. Joni Mitchell – Blue
4. Led Zeppelin - IV
5. Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
6. Jethro Tull - Aqualung
7. The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
8. Lighthouse – One Fine Morning
9. The Faces – A Nod Is As Good As a Wink To a Blind Horse
10. Nina Simone – Here Comes The Sun
11. John Lennon – Imagine
12. Rod Stewart – Every Picture Tells a Story
13. John Prine - John Prine
14. Carly Simon – Anticipation
15. Van Morrison – Tupelo Honey

Edit - can't believe I forgot John Prine's debut this year - while it's obvious he's not terribly well-represented here, had to give him some belated recognition.

I agree completely.
Also, don't feel too bad about the four artists with two songs, there's a pretty good chance there will be five Led Zeppelin songs in my top 15.

"Let me just say that, for coming years, if there's a similar discussion (say a song that people think is from 1971 but someone finds out during the voting period that it's actually from 1970) then I suggest the rule is that the song is eligible for 1971, since it no longer will have a chance to reach the final as a 1970 song.

Maybe this was obvious, but anyway...just so we don't need to have the same type of discussion again."

You can make any ruling you want here, but the people who spend all the time making their lists would like to know the correct years on these songs and albums.

Replace those two with Jimi Hendrix - Cry of Love and Can - Tago Mago.
Jirin, do you want me to replace them in their respective slots, or should I place them at 14 and 15?

On the dark side, it does have Imagine, probably the most acclaimed album/song I have a strong, rooted hatred towards. :angry-banghead:
I really can't stand that song either, and have always felt that Lennon had numerous infinitely better songs. My favorite solo song is easily Working Class Hero, but unfortunately it just missed the Final List :angry-banghead: .

Anyways, Imagine is definitely going to not be on my song ballot, though I enjoy the album as a whole.

Hi there, Starringo! Welcome to the forum :greetings-waveyellow:

Just one thing, though: Could you rank your list please? If you don't, I won't be able to count it towards the final tally. Maybe that is just a preliminary list, however.

Replace those two with Jimi Hendrix - Cry of Love and Can - Tago Mago.
Jirin, do you want me to replace them in their respective slots, or should I place them at 14 and 15?
Place them at 14 and 15, slide the rest up.

Bruce.... The single did not debut on the Billboard Hot 100 until the week ending January 30th, 1971... as for the album it was released in December of '70 so we reach the grey area where it should be '70, but then again it is not in my Top 15 so it really doesn't count and I really do not give a flyin' ****, take it out and move the rest down. Not changing it. I based it off the single FROM RYM:

Proud Mary / Funkier Than a Mosquita's Tweeter
. . . .
Artist Ike & Tina Turner
Type Single
Released January 8, 1971
RYM Rating 3.79 / 5.0 from 132 ratings
Ranked #66 for 1971, #2,669 overall
Genres
Soul
Funk

Albums:

1. Paul & Linda McCartney - Ram
2. Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson
3. The Who - Who's Next
4. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
5. David Bowie - Hunky Dory
6. Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces of a Man

These albums I really like from this year. Of course I find other albums very good too, but I thought by doing this there would be a slightly better chance for some more obscure album to make it to the final top 15. If my top 6 doesn't get full points because of the shortness of my list, I will of course add albums.

Just as a random thought; Exuma has the worst luck in this competition. FIrst I listen to Exuma just after the month ends. Then I listen to Exuma II and think that's great too. And they're both from 1970! Now I can't find Do Wah Nanny (1971) anywhere, and also I can't find African Rhythm nor Zandoo off Exuma II. Does anyone have any ideas how I could listen to them without buying?

Songs:

1. Don McLean - American Pie
2. The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses
3. The Temptations - Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)
4. Elton John - Tiny Dancer
5. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
6. David Bowie - Life on Mars?
7. The Who - Baba O'Riley
8. Sly and the Family Stone - Family Affair
9. John Lennon - Imagine
10. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
11. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
12. Paul & Linda McCartney - Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
13. David Bowie - Changes
14. The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
15. The Who - Behind Blue Eyes

I know this WAS listed as 1971 at RYM, but its been changed to 1972 as there is an article in the Jan 29, 1972 issue of Billboard that mentions that the album is coming out soon.
