What do you think is more important - the vote publicly feature or a proper posting page layout?

Poll: Vote publicly feature vs. proper posting page layout

Post by Henrik »

A new feature for the poll has been installed, but for some reason that I can't figure out it has caused a layout problem on the posting pages using Chrome and Internet Explorer, but it looks fine in Firefox.

In Chrome and IE, the "Options", "Upload attachment" and "Poll creation" tabs are almost completely hidden, only the top segment of the tabs are shown (and are clickable). Setting up a poll is also difficult without using Firefox (although I managed to set up this poll using Chrome).

I would like to know what you think is more important - the vote publicly feature or a proper posting page layout. And what could be better than doing it by using the feature. :D

Odd, no clue what could be causing this other than you missing a step somewhere in the installation process, but I'm sure you've already triplechecked that. I'm voting for proper post layout since (at least in Chrome) the post icon and subject lines are also partially hidden.

Quadriplechecked :angry-banghead:
It's driving me nuts. I have also checked that the problem still exist with the standard theme and template.

I haven't done a re-istallation of the mod yet though. That's all I can think of.

I do not understand much about this subject, and I do not know if it has to do with the topic, but the search results are not working properly, at least for me.

Ouch, the names disappeared because I unintalled (and re-installed) the mod.

Now I'm in IE9 instead of IE 11 and now I see the tabs, but the whole posting page is on the left side of the screen instead of in the middle. Very interesting...

I had forgotten that I need to update the search index after each upgrade. Now it should work again.

I seem to have located the problem, but it's the weirdest thing ever and I have no idea how to solve it.

For people familiar with phpBB, the problem is the file posting.php in the language/en folder. This file can't be touched! If I just add a blank space at the end of the file, it won't work! If I remove the blank space, it still won't work!! But if I start over again with the "clean file", it works again...

If I can't even add a blank space at the end, how will I then be able to add this code in the middle???

'POLL_VOTE_NAME' => 'Vote publicly?',
'POLL_VOTE_NAME_EXPLAIN' => 'If enabled users may chose if to vote in private or in public.',

Definitely time to go to bed now. I give up!!!

For many years I drove a Volvo, and then a Saab, one of the first models with an infotainment centre. One day I accidentally changed the language to Swedish (the other options were English, French, Spanish and German, any of which I can manage basic comprehension). It took me forever to find the right menu page to switch it back. Wish I knew you then. ;)

What are the permissions on posting.php, CHMOD 644? If that's already the case, try to create a .htaccess file in the same directory as posting.php, with this in it:

Code: Select all

SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
Then try editing again.

Stephan , this sounded promising but I'm afraid that it didn't work either. It is 644 and the .htaccess file didn't help. :(
