In retrospect and given my disdain for country music in general, I should have combined Traditional and new into one genre. If anything else, this will be the only time in UMT history that country music will get it's fair shake...

1. Johnny Cash
2. Patsy Cline
3. Willie Nelson
4. Hank Williams
5. Loretta Lynn

Although I really like traditional country I still feel like somewhat of a novice so this list could very well change quite a bit in the next 5 years. Here's how I esteem them at the moment:

1 JOHNNY CASH
2) WILLIE NELSON
3) BUCK OWENS
4) HANK WILLIAMS
5) GEORGE JONES

Just outside the 5:
CONWAY TWITTY
LORETTA LYNN
WAYLON JENNINGS
MERLE HAGGARD

It appears that the "others" were able to show a little affection for the Marshall Tucker Band. But, no one other than myself appears to have done so among the AMers.

17 - Alabama
A little disappointing...I don't really consider them "traditional" country, more of the beginning of the contemporary sound. They had quite a few pop crossovers back in the day and it's not hard to hear why in my opinion. Not denigrating pop, just saying they veered frequently away from what I'd consider the country "sound".

I consider them country rock so I wouldn't have voted for them in a traditional country round. And I'm only honestly familiar with a song or two from them although I like what I've heard.
