Acclaimed Music Madness: Elite 8

Post by Jeff »

Welcome to the quarterfinal round of Acclaimed Music Madness, otherwise known as the regional finals or the Elite 8. This poll closes around 11am EST (4pm GMT) Sunday.

IMPORTANT: THE VOTING LIMITS VARY BY ROUND DUE TO FEWER MATCHES, MAKE SURE TO READ BELOW:

For each matchup, indicate which artist you prefer and then assign that artist a score between one and three. However, you are limited by the number of scores that you can give:
3 – One per voter. Do you spend it on an artist you love or against one you hate?
2 – One per voter. Not as influential as a 3, but can still easily sway the outcome of a match.
1 – Two per voter.

Matchups
London Regional Final
1) The Beatles
2) Miles Davis

Lagos Regional Final
1) Prince
7) Neil Young

Memphis Regional Final
1) Bob Dylan
3) Stevie Wonder

Detroit Regional Final
1) Radiohead
7) David Bowie

London Regional Final
1) The Beatles
2) Miles Davis - 3
A vote for Miles is a vote for jazz. Also, he's my favorite artist remaining.

Lagos Regional Final
1) Prince - 2
7) Neil Young

Memphis Regional Final
1) Bob Dylan - 1
3) Stevie Wonder

Detroit Regional Final
1) Radiohead
7) David Bowie - 1
Hm, this is pretty close. I'll go with Bowie since I perceive him to be the underdog.

The Beatles- 3

I really like Miles Davis, but come on, it's The Beatles!

Prince- 2

Same thing as above, just replace "Miles Davis" with "Neil Young" and "The Beatles" with "Prince".

Bob Dylan- 1

This matchup is a bit closer than the other two, but Dylan still takes it.

Radiohead- 1

My number 2 artist of all time versus my number 4 artist of all time. Radiohead edges by.

Matchups
London Regional Final
1) The Beatles- ONE. As far as jazz goes, my tastes at this point go more toward Wes Montgomery, Dave Brubeck and the Modern Jazz Quartet.
2) Miles Davis

Lagos Regional Final
1) Prince-THREE I do like Neil Young but I honestly like Prince far more. Honestly of the remaining artists, the Beatles are my favourite but they should do fine on their own.
7) Neil Young

Memphis Regional Final
1) Bob Dylan-TWO This was tough because Wonder not Dylan is the artist behind my favorite double album (SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE) but for me all Wonder's strong albums are in the 70s but Dylan is still occasionally making material that interests me. He gets the nod.
3) Stevie Wonder

Detroit Regional Final
1) Radiohead
7) David Bowie- ONE I think Radiohead is extremely overrated. However, I don't want to eliminate them on the basis of NEGATIVE voting (tossing a 3 at Bowie) as I'd rather spend the 3 on the artists I most want to go on.

The Beatles are not too bad at all and I really don't dislike them, but c'mon, it's fricking Miles Davis we're talking about!

Lagos Regional Final
1) Prince
7) Neil Young - 3

Memphis Regional Final
1) Bob Dylan - 2
3) Stevie Wonder

Detroit Regional Final
1) Radiohead - 1
7) David Bowie

Edit: Didn't read the new rules before, so I changed the scores. Not sure why they are implemented, these scores don't reflect my preferences very well.

I'd have given a 2 here but since we apparently have to give a 3 in one of the brackets, here you are... it's strange we don't have the choice to use 4 1s or 2 2s and 2 1s if we don't feel like giving a 3 !

This one really hurts, because there's no way it should be a 3. It's just the largest gap for me amongst the 4 matchups...

Lagos Regional Final
1) Prince
7) Neil Young 1

Memphis Regional Final
1) Bob Dylan
3) Stevie Wonder 1

Detroit Regional Final
1) Radiohead 2
7) David Bowie
And no way this would be a 2, either. (But then I love all 8 of these artists, so what did I expect?)

23 hours left to vote. Two of the matches are fairly close, so additional votes can still make a difference.
