Kanye West definitely the top performing artist in the poll, though to be fair, if you stripped out the one outlier ballot in which like half of the top 50 was Kanye, the placements would be a little more reasonable.

Same thing with the earlier comment on Oblivion: a single additional vote, even at a low placement, would have vaulted it into the top ten.

I did notice female artists did really well. I think you could argue this is somewhat of a 'golden age' for female artists with many at the top of their game. It's pretty cool.

I feel like there are at least 3 or 4 different forumers that this could have been.

Also, even with all this love for Kanye, "New Slaves" finished way too low. It would have been in my top five had I voted.

Thanks for the results!

Really really happy that Good Intentions Paving Company did well. Joanna Newsom is terribly hard to introduce to people, but with Good Intentions Paving Company, she finally did it. It's a great Joanna-pop song.

It's album time!

Note that these results had more consensus than the songs (obviously), so I'm starting at 200. A single #1 vote was good enough to get into this group, but nevertheless there were some surprisingly low placements.

I've not really followed music from this decade very much (except of course 2010...), but I'm quite impressed/surprised with how strong that first set is. Actress/Darkside/RTJ/Drake etc I would have assumed would do better than they did!

My Bloody Valentine this low was the shock of the poll for me. I would have guessed it would place around 30. Did people just forget about it? I don't care much for Kaputt, but thought that would be top 20.

On the other hand, there is some awesome stuff in this section, like Deafheaven, Jon Hopkins, Thee Silver Mt. Orchestra, the two jazz albums, and La Femme (which was the discovery of the poll for me).

Damn, and it's even with my corrected vote I presume? I love m b v, nearly as much as Loveless.

I would have guessed Syro and Burst Apart would be higher too.

By the way, here are the 5 highest ranked songs that didn't make it to our top 250 :

M.I.A. - Bad Girls (#28 of the decade on AM)
Miguel - Adorn (#29)
Bat for Lashes - Laura (#38)
Jai Paul - Jasmine (#56)
Haim - Falling (#62) (The Wire also really underperformed compared to its AM rank)

Adorn and Jasmine not making the list is not a huge surprise given how they fared in bracketology and the lack of support for non Frank Ocean/Janelle Monae r&b (see low rankings of Climax and complete lack of the Weeknd)
Regarding Bad Girls, I never got the acclaim and it never got much support around here, so no big surprise either.

Laura on the other hand ! I remember it ranking high on its EOY poll, and it's a wonderful song in a genre that usually is well received around here, so this one is kind of a mystery !

Regarding albums, I'm not surprised by the low results of Kaputt, never got much support around here if I remember well. m b v on the other hand is a (pleasant) surprise.
Really nice to see Andy Stott performing so well too, I'm not a huge fan of his first EPs, but his 2 latest LPs sure are brilliant !
Also seems to be comfirmed that Treats is steadily losing steam, both here and in critics lists.

Couldn't vote but Kveikur much lower than I would have liked it to be. Maybe AM doesn't really like them?

It's even lower in the critics' lists overall. Should be higher in both.

I had it in my top 50 albums for the half decade. It's a seriously great album and also a seriously underrated one. Easily my second favorite Sigur Ros album.

That's one of my favorite sections of the whole list. So much cool stuff: Swim (can't believe this wasn't T50), Eckstasis, Ondatropica, Godspeed (again, sooo low), Cosmogramma, Like Clockwork, etc. I'm glad to see Undun get so much appreciation, as it never got much critical attention after coming out late in 2011. I need to listen to Hadestown.

51 to 75 there's not one album I voted for. I must be the hipster of our group :D. Just joking obv, but it is weird though. I'm hoping the top 50 will contain a lot of my picks.

Given your love of "Yeezus", I think you'd really like "The Money Store" (even if I find most of the comparisons a bit overblown).

So you either have the original one from 2010 or the one from 2011 where we elected 10 albums per year

If you're looking for old polls, you can find most of them on the "History of AM Forum polls" thread on top of the "music, music, music" page.

Jackson wrote:My Bloody Valentine this low was the shock of the poll for me.

I think that's just it with mbv. I can't help but align music with when it came out, so while Loveless sounds utterly amazing for 1991 and near peerless, m b v just sounded...forgettable. As if it was a relic from another age.

I think I tried a different Death Grips album, and it was too extreme for me! :(

Listening to The Money Store right now though and it's quite good so far.

I meant hipster as in against the AM mainstream.

Edit: But 40 to 50 contained already three of my albums, so I guess it was mostly just variance.

I really dig the "Biggest Fans" being included with the list. There's a weird sense of pride about it, like of all of these people who voted in this poll, I liked Celebration Rock and w h o k i l l the most. I also find it interesting to see how people define "hipster-ness" in this forum, because from my perspective, the very fact that we go on this website makes us all colossal hipsters and then there are varying degrees of hipsterdom even within this small community, from people whose lists resemble the EOY spreadsheets to people with lists of obscure world music and avant-jazz to people with an encyclopedic knowledge of radio pop. It takes all kinds, I guess.

Unpleasantly surprised by the low placing for Death Grips. I don't remember well how high it ended in our 2012 EOY, but for this poll I was expecting it to be at least top 30.
For me The Money Store is an undisputed, defining classic of the current decade. I saw the other day a list from the 4Chan boards and there TMS was voted no. 3, in their All-Time top 100!

Oh yes, Jackson, great presentation and apologies for not submitting a songs list (shortage of time).

I think I used to be a bit of a hipster, in the sense that I pretended to like music that was "cool" although I had a hard time listening to it. I (like to) think that I am more myself today. My lists even include music from the Eurovision Song Contest, something that would have been impossible ten years ago. I admit though that I am somewhat of a follower of this forum's hip obscure world music fans. :D

The way I see it, hipster is an attitude and not a taste. Of course it's great with lists that include lots of avant-jazz, resemble AM or that 4Chan all-time albums list, if that's what people like.

So, assuming no surprises, 18 of the (presumptive) top 20 albums made our all-time top 500 last fall, the two exceptions being the two (presumptive) 2014 entries.

No artists or titles, please! Let's keep this as spoiler-free as possible.

Thanks for this, Jackson! Long lists were submitted for this poll, so it must have been quite a mammoth task compiling them. I’ve enjoyed these roll-outs (especially – as others have mentioned – the quotes from lyrics). I’m delighted to see Ondatrópica make the top 60, and Lykke Li the top 50.

Funny comments about hipsters, too. My own definition of a hipster seems to mirror the definition of others around here: a hipster is someone whose sense of fashion and taste in music/film/culture are aligned with what’s meant to be “cool” or “hip”. I don’t think this definition applies to many (if any) of us on the forum. Even though we pay attention to what Pitchfork and other trendsetters tell us to like, I get the feeling that most of us have arrived at this forum because we genuinely appreciate quality in music, regardless of who told us to like what. Personally, I don’t care to dress or behave in a way that the trendsetters tell me to do. And there’s an irony about being a hipster that seems blatant to me: hipsters seem to conform to their subculture and become clones of each other, despite claiming to be removed from a conformist mainstream culture.

That said, I don’t think the word hipster necessarily has to be a dirty word. Who cares if some people behave in a certain way because it’s meant to be cool to behave that way? (You don’t have to be their friends.) And maybe there are aspects of being a hipster that many of us could relate to: valuing independent thinking, open-mindedness, creativity and intelligence; valuing the idea that you don’t have to be an overly masculine male and a passive female to form a relationship; rejecting ignorance, etc.

I can’t help but associate the word “fake” with the word “hipster”, but if… as some have suggested… enjoying obscure world music makes me a hipster, then I’m not a hipster: I’m a capital letters HIPSTER, bitches! I have already grown a beard. Now I just need the big glasses, skinny jeans, and that cardigan my grandfather wore in 1953.
...will keep us together.

After 2010 dominated the songs poll, it looks like it's on its way to dominate the albums poll. 5 of the 10 albums left were released in 2010.

I think that makes us nerds! But I mean "nerds" complimentarily and I think of "hipster" pejoratively, in the sense that hipsteriness has a sense of inauthenticity to it - that you come to like what you like because it's "cool" rather than because you like it. On the other hand - the true nerd species is just passionate about what they love, and wants to talk about it and wants to find out as much as they can about what they love etc. And that's us!

Fun fact (again, no artists or titles, please): One of the top 10 albums contains a track that prominently samples a song from one of the others.
