Rock is rock whether it be punk, ska, or hard.... Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin inspired U2, Motorhead inspired a legion of punk bands and the Beatles inspired them all.

Yes, but the fact is, aside from some psychedelic acts and a few genres like progressive, krautrock or post-punk which are abusively referred to as "rock" although this is not always justified from a structural standpoint, and some acts that are rather adventurous in the rock idiom (like Sonic Youth or Tom Waits), the rock music is only a peripheral component of my current music tastes, which are more centered on jazz fusion, funk, electronic music with touches of hip-hop and modern alternative music genres. So no matter what, hard rock or punk rock are not really my stuff, which must not be taken as a personal judgment on these genres' quality
