AMF Chart Week 23 2016

Post by Setherex » Sun Jun 05, 2016 8:05 pm

Welcome to Week 23 of the AMF Chart! The chart where even seconding nominations can't guarantee a coveted June slot.

Here are your rankings for Week 22 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. Radiohead - "Burn the Witch" (4)
2. Radiohead - "Daydreaming" (4)
3. Parquet Courts - "Human Performance" (7)

20. Big Ups - "National Parks" (1)
Total Votes: 174

Due to the tie for 10th place, the top 11 songs went through to this week's Chart. And aside from Radiohead's continuing domination, another notable thing happened this week - for the first time, songs that received seconding nominations in the Chart did not make it through, for a lack of space. Not one, but three songs with seconding nominations were cut from the final poll entries. Those 'third' and 'fourth' nominations that occasionally pop up may yet come in handy ;)

2016 Chart-Toppers by Week (by vote count, not chart position; total weeks atop chart in parentheses):
1. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (2)
2. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (3)
3. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (4)
4. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (5)
5. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel"
6. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (2)
7. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (3)
8. David Bowie - "Lazarus"
9. David Bowie - "Lazarus" (2)
10. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (4)
11. David Bowie - "Lazarus" (3)
12. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (5)
13. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (6)
14. M83 - "Do It, Try It"
15. Grimes feat. Janelle Monáe - "Venus Fly"
16. Courtney Barnett - "Three Packs a Day"
17. Grimes feat. Janelle Monáe - "Venus Fly" (2)
18. ANOHNI - "Drone Bomb Me" / Grimes feat. Janelle Monáe - "Venus Fly" (3) / PJ Harvey - "The Community of Hope"
19. Radiohead - "Burn the Witch"
20. Radiohead - "Burn the Witch" (2)
21. Radiohead - "Burn the Witch" (3)
22. Radiohead - "Burn the Witch" (4)

2016 Hall of Fame (10 weeks of advancing votes; automatically retired from chart):
David Bowie - "Lazarus" (Weeks 2 - 11)
Radiohead - "Spectre" (Weeks 2 - 11)
Savages - "Adore" (Weeks 2 - 11)
PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (Weeks 4 - 13)
Grimes - "Artangels" (Weeks 5 - 14)
Courtney Barnett - "Three Packs a Day" (Weeks 7 - 16)
PJ Harvey - "The Community of Hope" (Weeks 11 - 20)
ANOHNI - "Drone Bomb Me" (Weeks 12 - 21)

Here is this week's 19-song Spotify chart (with 1 song included below via external link)

Radiohead - "True Love Waits" (streaming on Apple Music)

Here is your 2016 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far this year:

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!

As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 UTC as I can make it. Best of voting! :D

Pardon me for asking: If top 11 went through, shouldn't Sturgill Simpson have gone through?
Two songs play in my head over and over as the world ends: Father John Misty - "Pure Comedy" and Billie Eilish - "all the good girls go to hell."

Well, I'm silly. Though I was sure I was going to make a mistake like this at some point :P

Due to the error, the poll has been erased and re-added, replacing James Blake with Sturgill Simpson. I apologize if you had already voted before this correction, but you are free to re-vote as of when I'm writing this post! And thank you prosecutor for noticing the error.

I was debating whether or not I should nominate a live cover, but after listening to it more times over, I'm convinced I need to:

"It Ain't Me Babe" - Kesha

Has Figure It Out by French Montana been nominated? I'd like to nominate it if not.

Also, I know there's already three Radiohead songs in the chart but this one's been hitting me hard lately:

Radiohead - Present Tense

I know I said this earlier, Setherex, but can we wait till most of the weeks are up with the three songs currently in the chart before adding more Radiohead to give other songs a chance and not to have the chart to have some sort of monarchy?

I'm thinking a new AMF chart rule should be that no more than three songs from the same artist are eligible to enter the chart in the same week.

Understandable. I'd be fine either way. I could see how it'd be annoying if you'd like to see more variety.

On the other hand, I love pretty much every song on the album!

Looks like "True Love Waits" might be dropping out anyway, but Present Tense fast becoming one of my favourites.

I feel just a little bit proud that my nominee Andrew Bird's "Roma Fade" is garnering support very quietly, especially facing some seriously stiff competition. It's a brilliant song, very upbeat. It deserves the acclaim.

Thanks for bringing this back up babydoll! Sorry I forgot to respond to it earlier. I have a few thoughts on the matter, that I'd also be happy for everyone to weigh in on it. Though since I'm a bit late coming to this topic, I'll save my thoughts for the next one...

New Chart goes up in an hour and a half! So I'll throw my noms in the ring a bit later than I'd like:

Wye Oak - "Watching the Waiting"
Descendents - "Victim of Me"
Mai Lan - "Technique"

Seconding Clams Casino's "All Nite" and Bat for Lashes' "Joe's House"
