Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
Part of me is happy not to see The Beatles win their 3rd in a row, it also makes it possible to have them included in the 2013 version. I also wanted to thank everyone who participated in this years tournament, I hope you enjoyed it.
My vote goes to The Stones...

Although The Beatles didn't make it to the championship, I'm still not sure that they should be included next year. I have a feeling that a lot of people voted for the Stones last round simply because they were tired of seeing The Beatles win, not because The Rolling Stones are their favorites. If the only way that The Beatles get knocked out is by everyone deliberately trying to knock them out using strategic voting, it's pretty clear who the real winner is, regardless of who actually wins the championship.

I don't care too much that the Beatles aren't in the championship, it's an internet poll of 50 or so people after all. It's not valid though, all through the tournament people were itching to find a way to vote the Beatles out. Congrats, you swayed the tournament in the favor of the 2nd and 3rd most popular rock artists of all time.
Good show Slick, this is always enjoyable. I disagree with leaving The Beatles out next tournament, although I'd love to see a new spin on the tournament. I have a couple ideas but maybe we can start a new thread to voice those once the winner is revealed.

Great final, hard choice now. I am one of the people who will always choose the Stones over the Beatles.
Bob Dylan
Thanks a lot for the organisation Slick! It was fun, again.

The Rolling Stones
I find it hard to believe that the Stones were selected instead of the Beatles purely for reasons of novelty and surprise in the tournament-besides that was about the two most popular and influential bands of all time in the history of rock music, so it makes sense to see more diversity regarding the opinions. I can not speak on behalf of the members of this forum since I'm one of the youngest members here but personally, though the Beatles are definitely in my all-time favorite artists, I love the Stones slightly more (in the sense that in a list of mine, say a Top 100, you'd see more albums from the Stones than in the Beatles-singles are another story and, for that matter, a more complicated one to consider).

I think this is a bit disrespectful to the large number of people, including myself, who would select The Rolling Stones over The Beatles without a moment's thought.Nick wrote:I have a feeling that a lot of people voted for the Stones last round simply because they were tired of seeing The Beatles win, not because The Rolling Stones are their favorites.

While both have already peaked (IMHO) artistically, I am more consistently interested in Dylan's latter-day output.

Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
My #1 and #2 of all time, and a DIFFERENT WINNER! Horray!
Vote Dylan.
The Beatles are one of my faves all time but never did any albums as good as Exile and Sticky Fingers, or and songs as good as Sympathy For The Devil, or Gimme Shelter, IMO. Way more valid than those times people voted for something they've heard over something they've never heard.

Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
While this might be a close race on AM, there's no chance of Dylan winning this with the others, so I think congratulations to The Rolling Stones are in order. I don't mind too much, since The Rolling Stones are in my opinion easily the best band of all time.
Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
Sorry if I came off as disrespectful, that really wasn't my intent. I love The Rolling Stones with all my heart, and it's obvious that this forum loves them too, and of course, there is their immense commercial and critical success. I know that there are a lot of people that voted for The Rolling Stones last round because they really thought that the Stones are the better band. All I'm saying is that if there was absolutely no strategic voting involved, The Beatles would have won. Not that I'm saying that strategic voting in the UMT is bad, per se.Stephan wrote:I think this is a bit disrespectful to the large number of people, including myself, who would select The Rolling Stones over The Beatles without a moment's thought.Nick wrote:I have a feeling that a lot of people voted for the Stones last round simply because they were tired of seeing The Beatles win, not because The Rolling Stones are their favorites.

Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
I'm warming up to the idea that The Stones legitimately defeated The Beatles. I appreciate the comments from those who voted for them.
Re: UMT 2012: CHAMPIONSHIP
Shit, I'm surprised the Stones won.
Anyway, the top albums between these two:
1- Bringing It All Back Home
2- Sticky Fingers
3- Highway 61 Revisited
4- Blood on the Tracks
5- Let it Bleed
So, I've got to give the edge to the Stones here. Pretty close, and it's been fun as always.
