Tindersticks - City Sickness
vs.
Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Tough, tough matchup. Hated to vote for one over the other. Shake Your Body is just so damn good, wooooooooooooooo.

The Roots ft. Erykah Badu - You Got Me
vs.
Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

Another tough one but You Got Me is just so damn smooth and as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege
vs.
Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty

Ms. Fat Booty, a great song of many from a great album.

Kanye West - Bound 2
vs.
Mercury Rev - Holes

Even though I'm not a big fan of Bound 2 it still reigns supreme so far. Sing it Charlie.

16. Blur - Coffee and TV
vs.
1. Pet Shop Boys - Left to My Own Devices

I still don't get what makes Coffee and TV so special. In contrast, so much happens in Left to My Own Devices and all of it clicks. It's lyrics are wonderful too.

8. Tom Waits - In the Neighborhood
vs.
9. Air - All I Need

Funny contrast in vocalists. Both are very much worth a while, so it was a difficult choice.

2. The Sundays - Here's Where the Story Ends
vs.
13. Lou Reed - Dirty Blvd.

Like I said last round, I love Reed, but not particularly Dirty Blvd. Here's Where the Story End though is one of my favorite discoveries of this poll.

11. Tindersticks - City Sickness
vs.
7. Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Here's a case in which a blockbuster thrill-ride for once wins from deep feeling.

6. Fiona Apple - Criminal
vs.
15. The Jacksons - Shake Your Body

As easy a choice as they come. Shake Your Body would be a fine song if it lasted two and half minutes, but now it drags. Criminal is great for its complete run time.

10. The Roots ft. Erykah Badu - You Got Me
vs.
14. Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

Eykah Baduh again makes my day.

3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege
vs.
12. Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty

Nothing against Mos Def, but Sacrilege is another one of my favorite discoveries of the poll. The dance/rock/gospel combination is just very inspired.

5. Kanye West - Bound 2
vs.
4. Mercury Rev - Holes

The most difficult choice of the week. I like how much balls Bound 2 has, especially in its use of samples. The feeling of Holes however just gets to me in an even more profound way.

Blur - Coffee and TV
vs.
Pet Shop Boys - Left to My Own Devices

Blur have many good songs but this simply isn't one of them.

Tom Waits - In the Neighborhood
vs.
Air - All I Need

Hardest choice

The Sundays - Here's Where the Story Ends
vs.
Lou Reed - Dirty Blvd.

Feels odd voting against Lou for some random band I’d never heard of, but damn if this song isn’t just the loveliest little thing.

Tindersticks - City Sickness
vs.
Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Fair enough song versus an epic of my adolescence.

Fiona Apple – Criminal
vs.
The Jacksons - Shake Your Body

Fiona Apple’s biggest hit takes it over a minor Jackson tune – did anyone else see “Criminal” on President Obama’s summer playlist?

The Roots ft. Erykah Badu - You Got Me
vs.
Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

The best word for the FJM track I can think of is… flaccid?

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Sacrilege
vs.
Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty

The Mos Def song is the epitome of smooth, but voting against “Sacrilege” feels like just that.

Kanye West - Bound 2
vs.
Mercury Rev - Holes

"Holes" is a more emotional song than "Bound 2", but it doesn't have as much of an emotional connection to me personally.
