Music of the Year 2000: Round 1 Week 4

The rules are simple: vote for your favorite in each match below. The winner will move to the next round. The deadline to vote is Sunday, November 20th at 8 PM CST. Note: I have divided the tournaments into groups of 16 based on the acclaimed music list; that way, lesser known works have a better chance to stand out, instead of facing off against the strongest. That might lead to a weaker final match, but think of it more as a collection of smaller tournaments celebrating different levels of acclaim. I am also going to do the two brackets inverse of each other; the most acclaimed albums with the least acclaimed songs, etc. That way, there's a balance of how much new material you will be expected to listen to, assuming more people are familiar with the more acclaimed works.

I think it's best to leave as is, as whoever nominated it was likely looking at RYM, and the fact that RYM has it listed as such means there's likely some reason to believe it had a release in 2000. What complicates this album further is that it was recorded in the early 90s but had an incredible delay, so it did exist in a form ready to be released in 2000. I'm going to leave it (this was an issue I noticed while listening to the album last week but decided 2000 could be argued to fit).

The date of 2001 is for the reissue under the Sub Verse label. It was released officially for the first time in mid-2000 under the ReadyRock label (as Bleu stated, there are reviews from 2000 for the album, just as this one: http://www.rapreviews.com/archive/2000_ ... tards.html).

I find U2's album a bit bland after their 80s/90s output. Smashing Pumpkins, whilst on the decline, still delivered a good/great album after the peak of Mellon Collie
