AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
Does anyone know if this has been brought up in another thread? Are we planning on doing this again this year?

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
It started this same calendar day, last time. I assume(?) it's still happening. Daniel popped up recently in response to Pitchfork's holiday songs list.
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
Turnout was pretty low last year, but if I can get 10 people to sign up who would like to submit ballots this year, I will be happy to host again this year
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
I would submit a ballot. My list would be very eclectic

I would also be in for a ballot.

I might be able to. How long a list are we talking about?
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
I'd say the lower bound if probably about 20 songs.JohnnyBGoode wrote:I might be able to. How long a list are we talking about?
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
In previous years, ballots needed to be a minimum of 25 songs (and up to 100 songs per ballot would be counted towards the results). However, if it results in more participants, I will gladly bring the minimum down to 20.

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
I'm a little interested in participating, just to join in the holiday fun, but my list would probably be pretty short.
My question is, what are we doing in terms of different versions of songs? In other words, separate them or combine them? (simultaneously, this would determine if the artist matters.)
EDIT: Well, I just looked at last year's results, and they show two versions of "O Holy Night", so that pretty much answers my question. Also, am I the only one weirded out by Nutcracker Suite as a whole being considered Christmas material, but I don't think any other classical composer is on there?
Here are three songs I want to include:
Taylor Swift - Back to December
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
ABBA - Happy New Year ----- Are these eligible?
Actually, for that matter, are Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and Let it Snow eligible?

I think it pretty much just has to have "winter," "December," or associates with a holiday during that month.

"White Winter Hymnal" is on this very popular Christmas album (with a surprisingly pertinent title) that my wife got. Being on a Christmas album or radio station always helps.
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
Interesting. I wouldn't have thought of White Winter Hymnal as a Christmas song, but if I include it, it will be near the top of my list.

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
I guess we can include any song that pertains to anytime within December 01 - January 01 (or includes "winter")? i'm just trying to establish the realm here. Even though this may seem like way too liberal of a spectrum, I think it could shake up the final list, and make it more interesting.

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
Well, it looks like I'm back in for the third year in a row. During the presentation for the first year, I realized I'd forgotten my #1 Christmas "song," Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from The Nutcracker Suite. And now, after Live in Phoenix mentioned "December," I was reminded of "December" by Exposé, one of my favorite songs of the 1980's, which will likely be #2 on my list. (So, in other words, the first time I participated, I overlooked both my first and second all-time favorite Christmas songs. I can't wait to find out what my third favorite is next year!)
Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
I wouldn't worry to much about what constitutes a song being a "Christmas song". I used to not put "River" and "Fairytale of New York" on my list because I didn't really consider them "Christmas songs", but I'll probably add them this year.

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping" has gotten my attention this year, in particular (btw I never would have guessed the singer had passed away from lung cancer TWENTY years ago). "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" has gone up in my estimation after seeing the movie. So it looks like I'll have a new Number One, since as I understand it, I can submit the list something like:
1. No artist - Silent Night
2. Bing Crosby - White Christmas
etc.

Re: AMF Christmas Songs Poll?
You certainly can submit that as your new #1 song I'm curious to see the overall results with the new rule in place. Should shake things up a bit!Live in Phoenix wrote:The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping" has gotten my attention this year, in particular (btw I never would have guessed the singer had passed away from lung cancer TWENTY years ago). Daniel, you can you my list from last year. There would hardly be any changes.

Haha I was considering just now whether to troll the whole thing by putting Death Grips Christmas remixes as my #1. Decided not to do that. Let It Takyon
