I was intrigued by Mylene Farmer's song, so I looked her up, and wow, discovered she is one of the most popular artists in France. ...which can be a good or bad thing. I got a Madonna vibe from her videos and marketing, even though Mylene's music is more airy than Madonna's.
From what i've seen, I find Mylene an interesting artist. I can't really see why she'd be hated, maybe people see her edginess as really forced.

She is the artist who make the biggest shows in France without ever appears on the media. And I don't know why she is not "loved", except by a huge fanbase...the music, the lyrics maybe but it's always cool to make fun of her here.

Tough to eliminate "Olofoofo", whose background vocals are just sublime. But "July Flame" is undoubtedly awesome.

I never thought these two would make it this far, but I am so, so happy that they did. The Devo song really turned me on to them - I had ignored them for far too long even though I love "Whip It". "Beautiful World" showed a completely different side to the band, and it led me to an absolute eargasm of synths in the way of New Traditionalists.

However, I have to go with Mylène here, and the breathtakingly haunting "Sans logique". Her music is my favorite musical discovery of the past 5 years, without question. I find it odd that she is not more beloved within France (and indeed the world). Her music is filled with so many references to the other arts, particularly literature, and it touches on so many interesting subjects. She may be "France's Madonna", but I find her music to be more gothic and closer to art pop. Though I am not a native speaker, there is a lot of beauty and potency in her lyrics. Maybe it's because she's originally from Quebec?

Take "Sans logique". Even using a simple google translator from French to English, there is so much to dig into with the lyrics:

The song deals with a kind of schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder, which lives in the character that Farmer portrays, and also makes reference to religious concepts (angels and Satan) to explore the two opposite sides of one person. The song uses obsolete words from 18th Century language. The calculating Marquise de Mertreuil (a character in the French epistolary novel Les Liaisons dangereuses), as both angelic as diabolical according to her own interests, seems to be evoked in the lyrics.

This from a 26-year-old who filled the corresponding album with homages to Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Baudelaire, touching on topics such as youth suicide, struggles with gender identity with references to an 18th century French diplomat and soldier who lived the second half of life as a woman, anal sex, and existential qualms. As much as I love Madonna (and believe me, I do!), she could only wish to write songs that are so artistic and so daring!

The French should be building statues of this woman, not turning up their noses at her.

All I'll say headed into the weekend is this week feels very...anticlimactic.

In what has up until now been a very contested tournament, all four songs in the lead have crossed double digits.

It was still a pretty entertaining tournament, and if these four have the highest consensus, it will be interesting to see how such a decisive Final Four does against each other.

And whatever the winner, i's Whatsoever the best Unacclaimed game since the beginning. Thanks to all the players.

Wow! This was the most underwhelming week in Unacclaimed history. Not in terms of song quality of course (they were all good), but in terms of how much the Top Four won by.

A clash of the titans. Both songs were rolling through the bracket up till now, but Amadou and Mariam were not challenged. Though accompanied by a woman, Amadou is the first male voice in the Final Four with at least equal billing since Unacclaimed II.

Mylene seems the favorite. Had the cleanest sweep in bracket play, winning all her games by at least three points.
