Here's my albums list in progress.

I've identified at least 20 other albums that I want to listen to, and there are some albums on my current list that I would like to listen to again (and as usual I will pay attention to other AMers' lists too).

In the press here in the UK, 1995 is usually remembered for Britpop but it also seems to be a good year for electronic music, and there are quite a few Americana & alt-country albums on my wishlist that sound very promising. And based on what I've just checked out from Greg's list (his lists are always commendable), there are also underrated hip-hop gems from 1995 for fans of the genre.

And as usual some great non-Anglophone albums deserve more exposure, like Goran Bregović's Music Inspired and Taken from Underground and Dominique A.'s La mémoire neuve. But at the moment the "Barefoot Diva" is at the top of my list. She has stolen my heart yet again.
...will keep us together.

One album that I hope gets some notice this year is Mercury Rev's See You on the Other Side. It's more consistent and less of a Flaming Lips soundalike than Deserter's Songs, but somehow gets absolutely no attention. I really like Deserter's Songs and will place it T5 for 1998, but after listening to both recently I realized See You on the Other Side is simply a better experience. Thank nj for turning me onto that one.

Finally! I'm looking forward to see this record getting some love. My Sister is Black Humor at its very best - and a very touching best! I hope people also check Holly Golightly. She was part of Thee Headcoatees and released her debut album in 95, The Good Things. I'm much a bigger fan of its follow up, 1997's Painted On, but her debut is also one of the very best garage rock albums of the 90s (and when 97 shows up, I'll be sure reminding you all of her again haha). And as a matter of fact it was also nj who suggested me Holly, like, two years ago. I guess we basically spoke about every single acclaimed living female artist of the world that day! 1995 was a good year for females, even when the albums weren't overall superb, they delivered plenty of strong tracks (e.g. Aimee Mann's That's Just What You Are, Joan Osborne's Dracula Moon, Ani DiFranco's 32 Flavors, Alanis Morissette's You Oughtta Know) :D

On a sidenote: Critics might have started to place To Bring You My Love aside after so many great Polly Harvey records and a growing love for Rid of Me, but I ain't buying this. The theatrical masterpiece might be my favorite record of hers. Also, I've found love in a hopeless place alongside Pulp's Pencil Skirt. It might even outdo the singles on my list!

On a second sidenote: Emmylou and Scott coming back stronger than ever; Of what haven't been mentioned already: There's this left-field chamber pop record by one-time jangles The Apartments that's really good (especially when you're in the mood);Smog's breakthrough record Wild Love; A very good live album by Rickie Lee Jones where she stripes the production of her songs; There's Swan's The Great Annihilator, a spoken-word album by Laurie Anderson with great stories and the follow up album of Thomas Fersen's debut album, Les Ronds the Carotte, containing the beautiful Au Café de La Paix. I hope I can expand further my list. There's a strike going on at College and all I have to do is finish an article for them before august, so I guess I'll have plenty of time to listen to those records (this and continue my journey to finish the wonderful à la recherche du temps perdu by Proust). It wasn't a very strong year for Brazilian music overall. I'm kind of having a hard time to find some records to recommend, I'll try to find haha. Also, spanish, german, french recommendations are more than welcome - same with other languages. So, here we go! :music-guitarred:

I have a hard time explaining why I can't get into the Tindersticks but I'll try: The arrangements are fantastic, it's baroque pop at it's best, I also like his voice but the singing just doesn't change with the music. There is obvious structure to all of their songs but every one I've heard, the singer doesn't follow that structure he just stays with the same structure as the verse... I just don't know the proper term to use here maybe somebody else can think of the musical term I'm missing.

Everybody loved Anouar Brahem's "Nouvelle Vague" in the first round of the foreign world cup, so I hope it will have a good chance here. It was first released on the 1995 album "Khomsa".

This is a very open year. Generally at this time of the month the winner is already easy to predict. Here we have a tight group of 5-6 albums that can pretend to the final win.

Concerning the song poll, only 5 ballots so far, and only 6 songs have more than 1 vote. So only 6 qualifiers!! Another open poll.

I guess they don't stand any chance but Goldie, Leftfield and Mouse from Mars albums are really good and deserve their acclaim ! I'm not even sure the Chemical Brothers can make the cut, electronic music have a rough time here, save for Daft Punk and Kraftwerk.

Haven't really heard much from 1995 to rank albums, but I am somewhat surprised by the lack of love given to "A Northern Soul" so far. Of course, it's way too early to judge, but just noticing...

I think A Northern Soul is sorely underrated, some days I think I like it more the Urban Hymns.

I don't know exactly when I will publish the results. I'm going to Sweden next week to see Henrik, and after that I'll be in a remote part of France with an uncertain connexion. I'll let you know, but it is posible that the results won't be before the 15th. Anyway I'll open the 1996 poll in early august.
