Least-favorite songs

Post by StevieFan13 »

My whole Less-Than-Acclaimed Music thing has kind of fallen by the wayside (maybe I'll get back to it someday), but since I just heard Charlie Drake's My Boomerang Won't Come Back for the first time, I've been inspired to list a few of my least favorite songs. There's some level of bile fascination in discovering terrible music, so while it's the polar opposite of what this site is meant to celebrate, here's a selection of some of the worst songs humanity might be capable of. Don't listen to them. Seriously. You'll regret it.
Bobby Goldsboro | Honey
Charlie Drake | My Boomerang Won't Come Back
Charlie Puth feat. Meghan Trainor | Marvin Gaye
D4L | Laffy Taffy
Aphex Twin | Come to Daddy (Pappy Mix) - probably the only controversial pick I have
Wham! feat. George Michael | Careless Whisper - maybe this too
Lukas Graham | 7 Years
The Black Eyed Peas | The Time (Dirty Bit)
Peter Cetera feat. Amy Grant | The Next Time I Fall
Simple Plan | Welcome to My Life
Aserje | The Ketchup Song
BROKENYCDE | Teach Me How to Scream
Starland Vocal Band | Afternoon Delight
Debby Boone | You Light Up My Life
Paul Anka | (You're) Havin' My Baby
Hinder | Lips of an Angel
Nickelback | If Everyone Cared
Kelis | Milkshake
Hoobastank | The Reason
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam | Head to Toe
Madonna | American Life
Limp Bizkit | Faith
Blazin' Squad | Crossroads
Mario feat. Gucci Mane | Break Up
LMFAO | Sexy and I Know It
Jason Derulo | Whatcha Say
Various | Baby It's Cold Outside
Creed | Higher
Meghan Trainor | Dear Future Husband
Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney | Ebony and Ivory
USA for Africa | We Are the World
John Mayer | Waiting on the World to Change
Billy Joel | Honesty
Eagles | Hotel California
Bruce Springsteen | Born in the USA
Madonna | Music
Madonna | American Pie
Elton John | Can You Feel the Love Tonight
Betty Buckley | Memory

Just walk into a CVS and you'll hear most of my list.

I used to have a job where I spent several hours a day on the sales floor of CVSes, grocery stores, retail stores. They all played the same god damned music. But if I had to pick the worst of the worst of the music I was forcefully subjected to.

Michael Buble - Haven't Met You Yet
Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi

Trying to make a larger list, but to be perfectly honest, NO other song, even the terrible ones, are half as terrible as those two.

Hey, what can I say? You've been a AMF member since January and you've posted almost 2,000 times. I think there's a lot less percentage of you pissing me off. I think it's not as much as you think.

And what can I say? "Milkshake" for you is like AC/DC is to you except Kelis can actually sing this song without coming off like an incompetent fool and the Neptunes' production is spectacular. Oh, another thing, there really needs to be a shrug emoji. It'd be perfect for right now.

There's always ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

These days, I can't really feel passionate dislike for any songs. "Hey Soul Sister" by Train is the only one that comes up often enough that I really think is terrible.

There was a period of time when I utterly despised "Don't Stop Believing" but I'm over it now. Now, if someone OTHER then Steve Perry sings it, my blood starts boiling... but I haven't had to deal with that in years.

That's a relief. You're a cool guy. And I don't like the Neptunes' production on that at all - the one time their minimalism didn't work for me. But to each their own.

Maybe I need to listen to it in a better mood. I was really tired, listening to in between two songs on the SC list I liked much better (Borderline and Once in a Lifetime), and I just got super bitter at it. It isn't that bad, in hindsight. Certainly not as nigglingly catchy and syrupy sweet as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."

To be honest, I used to hate the song when I was younger but as I got older I started to like it more. To me it really is a great adult soul ballad. It's a great song to me.

I love "Careless Whisper". That sax solo is pure cheesy fun.

When it comes to songs I hate I don't have a definite list or anything, but every song I've heard by Brokencyde would certainly find its way on there.

I like all of these except for the first two which I still haven't heard yet. :(

Oh, and I like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go". Granted, I actually like "I Want Your Sex" so maybe I secretly have terrible taste.

It's wearing me down, I'll give it that. You do the jitterbug (snap, snap). At least I know that George Michael's presence will never leave me. The damn one-two punch of Go-Go and Whisper will stay in my head for all time.

And I love Baby Got Back and Thrift Shop, but I am also a basic white guy. (And I'll admit, Same Love isn't great, but I like the message. Then again, I like the message of We Are the World too, but that song should probably also be on the all-time worst list).

"For What It's Worth" is one of those songs that I feel like I should love, but everything about it is just wrong.

Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is really the most overrated song ever. Nirvana has so many better songs in their catalogue and yet people choose to fixate on the one song that just happens to have both terrible vocals and terrible production. Oh, and the "A mulatto, an Albino/A mosquito, my libido, yeah" just doesn't really work.

"We Will Rock You" would be played at my pep rallies so I do have some bad memories concerning with it. But ultimately it's the lyrics and the vocals that rub me the wrong way. Also I don't care much for the stomping. Actually, the stomping may not be there, because I haven't heard it since I've left high school willingly and my classmates would stomp their feet while chanting this.

I have no words to say about "Losing My Religion". It's not special and somehow despite its facelessness, I dislike it intensely.

Oh, and "Baby Got Back" was severely ruined by "Anaconda".

All valid, I'd say. I like them all (and despise Anaconda). They're not my favorite songs by Nirvana, Queen, or REM (though Teen Spirit comes close).

Okay, why don't you like this song? It's like the last truly great song she's ever done. And, yes, I do remember "Hung Up" when I write this.

It's just tuneless noise to me. I don't like the beat, though I will say Madonna's voice is fine. I much prefer Don't Tell Me.

I actually can't stand "Don't Tell Me". It's one of the most positively reviewed on Music, but the way the music keeps stopping just drives me nuts. If it didn't do that, I'd probably really like it a lot, but alas, this was Madonna being too artsy and artsy Madge can be quite intolerable at times.

My all-time ratings are provided for some of your selections.

We should find that our poll submittals are widely divergent :-)

I mean *like* serious-fucking-ly ?

Might as well put Oasis "Wonderwall" on that list too then :angry-banghead:

OK, I am sure you can find much worse than that and take that song off your list.
Case in point :

or a bit more controversial

I actually love Wonderwall lol. Boulevard of Broken Dreams has just been overplayed to death for me. On an objective level, I'm sure there are worse Green Day songs (I haven't heard anything from Uno! Dos! Tre!), but I just need a break from that one. And I loved it live, so maybe I just like it in spurts.

So maybe I will take it off. "Music" stays, though.

I was once trying to come up with a worst song of the year for every year I was listening to music. Crimes against music include, in no particular order: being trite, sappy, viciously generic, emo, lowering my IQ 100 points for a few minutes, naming your song "I'll Be There for You," making me want to leave a place of business just to escape the song.

R.E.O. Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling (on the work radio right now)
John Cougar Mellencamp - R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
Bon Jovi - I’ll Be There for You
Go West – King of Wishful Thinking
Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me
Mariah Carey - Hero
Boyz II Men – I’ll Make Love to You
The Rembrandts - I'll Be There for You
Hootie and the Blowfish – Only Wanna Be with You
Alanis Morissette – Ironic
Sister Hazel – All for You
Limp Bizkit – Faith
Blessid Union of Souls – Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)
The Offspring – Why Don’t You Get a Job?, Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)
Liz Phair – Why Can’t I?
Hoobastank – The Reason
The Black-Eyed Peas - My Humps
Gym Class Heroes – Cupid’s Chokehold
Whoever sings that fairly recent "You Make Me Smile" song
Flo Rida - Whistle
Bruno Mars - Count on Me
Michael Buble - everything, or, Haven't Met You Yet
Michael Bolton... I don't want to break my streak and listen to him again to pick my least favorite
