R.I.P. Terry Callier

Post by mattschroeder »

I just found out that Terry Callier died a couple of days ago. I'm gonna be listening to "What Color Is Love" now pretty much non-stop for the next day or two.

If you haven't heard this album, do yourself a favor. The opening track "Dancing Girl" is so incredibly good.

Yes - Truly "What Color Is Love" was one of my favorite discoveries of the last Moderately Acclaimed competition. Any other suggestions for his music?

It's unfortunate, but this was the catalyst that finally made me listen to Callier. He was really good.

Occasional Rain is a very nice complement to What Color Is Love, same time period, similar vibe. Nothing tops "Dancing Girl", though, that's a masterpiece.

I saw Callier open for Gil Scott-Heron at the Chicago Metro in 1998 -- quite a bill, and a very good show. It's sad that they are now both gone.

I've also put What Color Is Love on, great album by a great artist. He'll be missed.
