And it looks like the only one he didn't include was my favorite Pavement song. :o Ah, the differences between a true Pavement fan and someone who is ... less so. ;)

It wasn't! (I was never a huge fan of "Summer Babe," either, I'm afraid.) It's from another era. (Hopefully, not literally - I may have the wrong year, but it was on "S&E.")

This is a separate version, distinct enough from the 1992 release to be different. I really like the “Dusted” versions of their material (especially “Found Out About You”) - more energetic, with rawer vocals, and a bit faster tempo.

I don’t know if there are rules around ones like this (where the same song is recorded and released in two different years). My personal rule has been to include for the year that I prefer the version of. For “Hey Jealousy”, that means I’m planning on voting for it here. I’m also not voting for “Welcome to Paradise” / Green Day in 1992 as I think the 1994 version has much better production. I guess though it isn’t too consequential one way or the other, given the wildcard rules.

The wildcard system was introduced partly to handle cases like this. Anyway, I try not to be too picky. Mostly I just point out when folks are potentially wasting their vote by voting for recordings that nobody else will consider voting for in that period or when they are in danger of voting for the same recording in two different years. I do get some early votes based on year of recording, but I let the wildcard system pick that up so long as the same person doesn't also vote in the year of release.

A very good year. I needed to make some tough cuts at the end. Still, I don't expect much here to make it and I berate myself for not adding some recommendations at the beginning of the month to this topic (not that such a thing would help).

1. Manic Street Preachers – Motorcycle Emptiness
2. PJ Harvey – Sheela-Na-Gig
3. The Lovemongers – Battle of Evermore
4. Radiohead – Creep
5. Ministry – Jesus Built My Hotrod
6. Vangelis – Conquest of Paradise
7. R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts
8. Leonard Cohen – The Future
9. The Black Crowes – Remedy
10. Ride – Leave Them All Behind
11. R.E.M. – Man On the Moon
12. Tori Amos - Winter
13. Neil Young – Harvest Moon
14. PJ Harvey – Oh My Lover
15. The Lemonheads – Mrs. Robinson

I'm bad at guessing results by just scanning these lists, but it looks like PJ Harvey's Dry - my candidate for best album of the decade - is not doing to stellar here. It ranks mostly low in the top 15 of people and might miss the cut. Isn't that a forum favorite anymore?

It is ranking #8 at the moment (only 2 albums have appeared on more lists). I find that quite a few votes arrive during the last 24 hours and things change. One #1 vote makes a big difference (as it has for Motorcycle Emptiness).

Oh yeah lol. Ultimately after a lot of debate I realized I liked Nightswimming more than Sidewinder, but ultimately it’s like picking a favorite child.

Re: Songs and Albums of 1992 Poll

A drop off in votes means that probably no more than the automatically qualifying first ten albums will make the decade poll. 1992 will probably get it quota of songs however, with five songs in wildcard qualifying positions. Much change in the qualifying songs from last time.

Biggest surprise for me Sonic Youth 'Dirty' getting knocked out.

ALBUMS results.

29 voters voted for 141 different albums.

"Find the River" getting more points than "Drive" and "Man on the Moon" is surprising.

Find the River getting in is fantastic (maybe the biggest surprise too) - my favourite track on the album - great use of piano. It should have been a single so it would get more attention.

I’m a bit surprised that Henry’s Dream, Nick Cave, didn’t get anywhere close. I’d rate it up there with his best. But then I did just check and see it was one of his lower rated albums by the critics so maybe it is only a surprise for me.
