I've mentioned this album before in this forum, but it's always mystified me that while Aimee Mann's first and third solo albums have always gotten the attention they deserve (including both being in the AM top 3000), her equally brilliant second album I'm With Stupid (1996) seems all but forgotten. Same gleaming pop-rock craftsmanship (courtesy of the amazing symbiosis between Mann and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion), same trademark light/dark songwriting - there's no reason IWS shouldn't be right up there with Whatever and Bachelor No. 2 in terms of acclaim. And "It's Not Safe" earns a place on the list of great closing tracks ("So maybe everything is all for nothing/Still, you'd better keep it to yourself/'Cause God knows it's not safe with anybody else").

Flying Color - Flying Color (1987)

Wonderful album. The group is not even referenced in AM.

While soundtrack albums are pretty sparsely represented in general, I feel like three that should absolutely be here are the soundtracks to The Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore. Some of the most beautiful music ever made.

Yeah, I've heard quite a bit of Sinatra, tried to cover all my bases, but I don't think I've heard anything from this album. "I Would Be in Love (Anyway)" showed up twice in Favorite Songs by AM Top 100 Artists.
A very good album, I can now say. Not used to a narrative concept album from him -- the '50s concept albums of course were by general mood. "Lady Day" is my favorite song, though (the bonus track).

Cults s/t debut was an epically excellent effort.
