So, I'm late to the party listing out where we are a fan, but...better late than never?

Looks like I had 33 total, that's a lot -- I think a lot of these made Top 1000s in the past, where a few strong votes for more esoteric, less-heard songs could make a difference. I guess I should be happy they still got a mention...

[1991] Lou Christie | Paint America Love (24)
[1904] György Ligeti | Requiem (3)
[1768] Lindstrøm | I Feel Space (144)
[1764] The Walker Brothers | The Electrician (18)
[1743] The Shangri-Las | Past, Present and Future (32)
[1706] Nina Simone | Mississippi Goddam (205)
[1700] Genesis | Supper's Ready (56)
[1698] Scott Walker | The Seventh Seal (67)
[1641] Arvo Pärt | Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten (41)
[1603] Pharoah Sanders | The Creator Has a Master Plan (29)
[1544] Johnny Cash | The Mercy Seat (86)
[1540] Krzysztof Penderecki | Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima (26)
[1523] Can | Bel Air (38)
[1521] Igor Stravinsky | The Rite of Spring: Part II. The Sacrifice (15)
[1497] Prince | Sometimes It Snows in April (89)
[1477] David Axelrod | The Human Abstract (95)
[1473] Freda Payne | Band of Gold (114)
[1464] Can | Oh Yeah (83)
[1373] Massive Attack | Protection (88)
[1366] Nick Drake | Things Behind the Sun (81)
[1339] Steve Reich | Music for 18 Musicians (6)
[1287] Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Requiem: Lacrimosa (11)
[1204] Ludwig van Beethoven | Symphony No. 7: II. Allegretto (87)
[1203] Sheena Ringo | Souretsu (Funeral) (30)
[1192] Judee Sill | The Kiss (17)
[1182] Curtis Mayfield | Right On for the Darkness (8)
[1068] Os Mutantes | Panis et Circenses (19)
[1042] Art Ensemble of Chicago | Thème de Yoyo (22)

For these I was listed as a fan, but without the highest vote:

[1731] Serge Gainsbourg | Cargo culte (63)
[1646] Disco Inferno | The Long Dance (97)
[1396] Robert Wyatt | Little Red Riding Hood Hit the Road (94)
[1191] Public Enemy | Welcome to the Terrordome (71)
[1072] Mercury Rev | Holes (96)

I guess I just wasn't made for these times......

My favorite by the Swans:

The Swans they’re talking about are a little different from this band. Nice song though.

Ummm, yes I know. This Swans is not a band though, it's a vocal group that did not play instruments, like the Temptations.

Wow, that is massive! Looks like your favorites were dropped a bit due to the expansion to 1000 song lists and a flatter point curve. For what it's worth, I think your list is amazing.

I anticipate that all of my top 10 will make the top 2950, which I'm quite happy about! Four of my top 10 were in the 2001-2950
range.

I think another fun exercise after the poll would be to see everyone's top 10 that didn't get a mention in the top 2950.

I voted for 15 of the 33 and then was the high voter for two out of the five on your second list! Pretty amazing given that these were singled out for only drawing a few votes. It's funny because I don't think our lists are that correlated on the whole but we share a lot of random songs that only a few others have (part of this is definitely me ripping songs from your list...I def would not have Past, Present and Future, Right on for the Darkness, or Band of Gold on my list if it wasn't for you, for example).

I agree with your sentiment per what I wrote a few posts back. Now we're barely into the top 1,000 and Starless just dropped. That used to be a mainstay of the T200 in polls past. I guess there might be different surprises this time? We'll see.

Perhaps, but I expect that in general the songs will become far more familiar. It's a bit inevitable when the group of voters has become quite a bit bigger. Songs more people know come quicker to the surface.

I guess we do! Just checked out your list, and I really like a lot of your unique picks.

Very late to the party here, but in the 2000-1001 range I was listed as a fan 14 times. I was the biggest fan outright 12 times, with acroamor tying my Hold On vote and beating my Killers vote by 1 spot!

[1990] Vampire Weekend | Oxford Comma - 132
[1932] Joe Cocker | With a Little Help from My Friends - 159
[1900] Alabama Shakes | Hold On - 123 (tied with acroamor)
[1841] Arcade Fire | Keep the Car Running - 237
[1803] The Mamas & the Papas | Dream a Little Dream of Me - 55
[1504] The Wallflowers | One Headlight - 117
[1475] Muse | Hysteria - 125
[1355] Feist | 1234 - 78
[1329] Elliott Smith | Miss Misery - 227
[1173] Pink Floyd | Brain Damage/Eclipse - 41
[1157] The National | Mr. November - 131
[1154] Beach House | Zebra - 64
[1049] The Killers | All These Things That I've Done - 46 (acroamor had it at 45)
[1039] John Lennon | Instant Karma! - 281

Surprised that I was the biggest fan of Instant Karma... and it still finished above all these other songs anyway.

My 'fan' mentions from the second thousand:

[1940] Bob Seger - Turn The Page (59)
[1806] The Magnetic Fields - The Book Of Love (76)
[1769] The Knife - We Share Our Mother’s Health (66)
[1716] Janelle Monae - Dance Apocalyptic (91)
[1685] George Michael - Faith (98)
[1604] Exuma - Exuma, The Obeah Man (80)
[1554] The Stone Roses - She Bangs The Drums (70)
[1520] The Magnetic Fields - Papa Was A Rodeo (73)
[1500] Curtis Mayfield - Freddie’s Dead (78)
[1471] The Verve - The Drugs Don’t Work (172)
[1346] Robert Johnson - Hellhound On My Trail (4)
[1307] Neutral Milk Hotel - The King Of Carrot Flowers (81)
[1233] Happy Mondays - Step On (57)
[1232] The White Stripes - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground (45)
[1197] REM - The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite (41)
[1190] Paul McCartney - Maybe I’m Amazed (64)
[1119] Anais Mitchell - Why We Build The Wall (26)
[1096] The Velvet Underground - Femme Fatale (176)
[1065] Prince - I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (69)
[1048] PJ Harvey - The Words That Maketh Murder (21)
[1035] Public Enemy - Don’t Believe The Hype (29)
[1001] Jane’s Addiction - Jane Says (31)

Am I the biggest non-Kanye rap fan on this forum? Surprised nobody else listed Don't Believe The Hype. I've never had a rap album in my top 10 but have them in my top 20...

In my head I've been working on a parody of They Might Be Giants 'Particle Man' with the lyrics of other famous songs.
"Nowhere Man, Nowhere Man, living in his nowhere land, telling all his nowhere plans to nobody man..."
"Obeah Man, Obeah Man, Exuma is the Obeah Man..."

Of course, Triangle Man beats Nowhere Man, but Obeah Man beats Triangle Man.

You, me, and bootsy all kind of share that honor, I'd say.

And that's fun! Lemme see...

Yeah, I think the flatter point curve has been rough on a lot of my faves. Really great idea about the Top 10s that didn't make the cut! Would be an interesting list.

I agree with your sentiment per what I wrote a few posts back. Now we're barely into the top 1,000 and Starless just dropped. That used to be a mainstay of the T200 in polls past. I guess there might be different surprises this time? We'll see.
So, this might be a little controversial for me to bring up -- but there were a good number of lists posted by users that have barely ever posted here, either before or since. They also seemed to share a lot of the same taste.

While that indeed is resulting in surprises, I'm not sure how representative it is of the board generally?

I would be really interested in seeing results of Top 200 lists only, weighted, for users with 100 or more posts. I might just do that after this finishes up!

I think this discussion has been brought up over the last several polls; a lot of the names are also the same people as those previous polls. My suggestion is we shouldn't continue this discussion because it ends up making everyone mad at each other, and the fact that I recognize most of these names at this point means they are regulars, just lurkers (who I hope would eventually make their presence known/explore our other forum polls and not solely participate in our big ones).

I had it at 1234 on my extended list. It's a good song just not one of my favorite PE songs.

I have around 180 rap songs on my list (though about 15 are either by Kanye or Kanye produced) but I don't have any PE one. I know how trailblazing and important they are, and I can hear it, but I just don't enjoy their sound at all : I don't enjoy the (purposedly) messy samples, find the production unbalanced and don't really care for Flava Flav and Chuck D's rapping.
The only 2 songs of them I could have remotely considered are He Got Game, possibly the least PE of PE songs, and Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos, but I enjoy the Tricky cover way more so I went with that instead.

Hmm...there's a song in my top 100 that I know received at least another top 100 vote and a few other lower votes, but it hasn't appeared yet and I can't imagine it will at this point...I wonder if it got ate up in the file?

I would be interested in seeing a spreadsheet of the votes (excluding the songs which haven't yet appeared in the results presentation) so that we could better understand how our faves that didn't make the top 3000 fared.

Yes, mostly either classical pieces or deep cuts from forum-favorite artists.

Good rollout so far! But “Jealous Guy” is actually ranked at 681 on AM.
