I don't hear any Chuck Berry, but you've got that backwards anyway. Muddy was one of Chuck's biggest influences, not the other way around. Chuuck's first record "Wee Wee Hours," (on the flip side of "Maybellene") is clearly his attempt at a Muddy Waters style.
I was meaning the other way around, like I can see the influence from Muddy in Berry... maybe I was even thinking of Wee Wee Hours. Looking back on it though I'm not sure why Chuck Berry came to mind since he's not big on the sax, but came to mind he did. My brain makes some very tenuous connections sometimes.
Okay.

I haven't looked up the length of each voter's ballot. Instead the percentage is calculated as the number of songs in the spreadsheet (in this topic's first post) divided by the highest position listed in the spreadsheet. So if someone listed 250 songs and was the only one voting for 5 songs that were placed at, say #44, #95, #140, #149 and #167, the percentage is calculated as 5 / 167 = 3% and not 5 / 250 = 2%.

The original version of this, by Mickey and Sylvia, is considered a 50s classic. It's #28 for 1956 on this site. I am a 50s fan, but I always thought it was overrated and give their version just a 6. This Exuma version annoys me, it's a 3.

Thanks for these Henrik. Some of these artists are odd. Todd Rundgren obviously Henry's doing; his love for that artist is well known. But I wondered if some of the more out there names near the top of the list were also due to one person. The answer is "yes, of course". They Might Be Giants and Barenaked Ladies all belong to Wezzo, while The Verlaines is all thanks to Brad (and Pavement too, really). Wezzo and Brad worked together hand in hand to get in as many R.E.M.'s as possible.

But even bigger names like Prince really get on here because of fans. Prince owes a lot to Moonbeam. The Rolling Stones got their love more spread around, but still a lot of their entries come from the duo of Antonius and again Brad. Bruce Springsteen has an even better sprawl, but gets a lot out of his adoration by Wezzo. David Bowie is liked by seemingly everyone, but still Brad can't help himself and be clearly the biggest supplier of Bowie on this list. So Bob Dylan becomes the highest ranked artist without a real standout fan support, though still Listyguy and me are most to blame.

Someday, someone will join this forum and fall in love with James Blake just as much as I have. One of my new year's resolutions this year is to write 5 auto-biographical pieces a week for a year, and the first I wrote about art was actually about my experience with finally understanding his music - which ultimately lead to how I view art in general these days:

I did it myself. The info wasn't up immediately, was it? Or did I look over it?

Anyway, thanks for this. I really wanted this information, but never took the time to seek it out myself.
I'm the biggest fan in this part of the poll for Bob Dylan, Laura Marling, Leonard Cohen and Joanna Newsom. I would probably rank all four of these in my top 10 artists, so this makes me happy. A rather wordy bunch, when I think of it.

Exuma - Love Is Strange: 6

I had to look up the older versions before deciding on this one. Exuma made a very different song out of it. It is comparable to what Isaac Hayes did with the likes of By the Time I Get to Phoenix and Walk On By on Hot Buttered Soul: making a rambling spoken word song out of a classic hit. Reflecting on the themes of the lyrics and taking them in different directions. Exuma's song is far shorter and less out-there in sound, but the lyrics are no less far-reaching. It lacks something that really hooks me, but like Romain I found it easy to like and appreciate.

Fascinating statistics! I consider myself quite a big Modest Mouse fan, but I'm clearly outclassed by Styrofoam Boots - whose taken his username from one of their songs to top it off. Gotta wish him a hearty "WELL!" at that news.

There seems to be a lot of songs with this low tempo beat and these monotone vocals. They have a very depressing overall sound that really annoys me.

Puddle of Mudd - Blurry: 5
This one has around 73.000.000 stream of Spotify, which is a lot. It is the type of song a lot of my friends listened to back around the time this came out, but I don't actually remember ever hearing this one. Or the name Puddle of Mudd for that matter. It's a rather basic early 2000's semi-grunge song. Too unoriginal to be memorable, though apparently it has connected with people.

I have a soft spot for Post-Grunge and some Nu-Metal. It's probably from the rock radio station I listened to when I was younger, since they played Post-Grunge a lot.

The Stooges – Fun House: 3

The song goes on too long and most of the lyrics are just Iggy Pop rambling.

Good riff, I like the sax, but it's so disorganized. It could have been a good Doors type rocker if it was like 3 and a half minutes with some structure.

Stooges - Fun House

Love, love, love this album. I probably rate this the 5th or 6th best on the album but I would still give it a 8.5. This is what the Doors sound like in Hell.

Disorganized? Yes. Iggy is rambling? Yes. No structure? Indeed.
All ingredients for a great song. Like fasbjd I love, love, love this album and I also agree with him that this is not even the best track of Fun House, but damn if I can resist it.
The Stooges - Fun House: 8

Yes, a song that grates.

Exuma – Love Is Strange
7 - First exposure to this artist was Exuma, The Obeah Man from the top song countdown. This is very different, soft and soothing, like floating down a river.
Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
5 - If I didn't put this in my Guilty Pleasure list it belongs there. Incredibly generic, angsty butt-rock, but it's also nostalgic for me and I can't hate it too much.
The Stooges – Fun House
8 - Feels like an impromptu jam session, and I am into it. Iggy's performance here is really fun, and the wild saxophone gives the whole piece a cool, dangerous vibe.

Also I changed some of my previous ratings after a second listen

Now a song from an album that all of you might have heard:

13. Queen – Good Company
Year: 1975
From the album: A Night at the Opera
Biggest Fan: Zombeels (#936)

Don’t forget you can always vote for earlier songs or change your vote!

Could you in the future name those? It would save me quite a bit of time.

11. Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
Wow, typically the kind of American music produced per tonne that I don't like at all. 2/10

12. The Stooges – Fun House
What a voice, what an energy, what a guitar, wath a sax 8/10

13. Queen – Good Company
A very Beatlesian song, a charmant pop song 6/10

These were hard to rate:

When the Stooges' Funhouse came up, I thought, "Ooh, a song I really like - can't remember how it goes - but might be giving this a 9". I've always liked Iggy...
Then I was getting mildly annoyed when people were saying it was a rambling mess. I was thinking, "But that's Iggy. That's what Iggy does best - rambling messes!"
Then yesterday, when I listened to it, and I didn't recognise it at all! I don't think I have actually heard it before - I probably just recognised it as an album title. And then listening to it I was thinking, "Oh no, this is just a rambling mess. Damn, I don't really like this much... It's probably only a 4."
Then today, whilst writing this, I thought, I better give it another listen. And I started really enjoying it! I'm giving a 7 now, perhaps rising...
It does make sense though that rambling messes will need a few listens, so your brain can cope with it! 7.

And I was expecting to dislike Puddle of Mudd, but actually quite enjoyed it. 5.

I thought Exuma was interesting, quite like the talking bits, and knew the song, and thought it was a good choice to Exuma-up, if that's what was going on. But, by the end of it I thought, "Do I want to hear this again... Nah, not really". 5.

Never heard the album and never heard this song before. I really dislike "BR" which I think is on this album.

This one is dopey, but not awful, it's okay, which is a 4 on my scale.

You should have stuck with your first impression instead of force feeding yourself to try and like it.

Queen - Good Company: 5

Unidentifiable as a Queen song. It sounds very much like something from the mid-sixties. The Beatles indeed, but perhaps even more so The Kinks or even Small Faces. It a perfect copy of that sound, but I don't know to what end. It's been ages since I last heard A Night at the Opera, so I can't judge it's context, but perhaps it works better there? As it is, it is kind of okay, but not something I would put on again.

Puddle of Mudd = Blurry= 5 (Average). Not as bad as everyone makes it to be. It's automatic grunge writing, but acceptable. Better than LMFAO by any standard.

The Stooges = Funhouse = 6 (OK). I listened to the entirety of the Funhouse Sessions and for the life of me cannot remember this song. Messy but not a highlight of the album

Queen = Good Company = 7 (Good). The side of Queen I prefer. Quirky, simple, not over the top. Very enjoyable

LMFAO = 3 (Bad) = Nothing worth remembering about this song. On the contrary, I rarely listen to lyrics, but this one takes the cake. Breakfast cooked by Grandma ? Please....

Coldplay & the Chainsmokers = 4 (Mediocre) . Shame. The vocal melodies are not extraordinary but could have been much better without the electronic arrangements. Keep it simple, like you used to...

Hot Tuna - Water Song = 6 (OK) : I quite liked this instrumental, it flows nicely.

No, no, no, no, no, ..., no, no. I've not liked a huge amount of songs on the first listen that have gone on to be huge favourites of mine after further listens.

Yes, that happens to me sometimes too, but I think for this project the first impression should rule.
