Discovered a niche RateYourMusic/BandCamp release last night that might interest some. The album is called Dorkcore 101 by Kevin and the Bikes.'

https://kevinandthebikes.bandcamp.com/a ... rkcore-101

The album is a four-hour concept album dedicated to the character of Kevin from the children's show Ed, Edd, n Eddy. I'm sure a certain demographic of forumgoer will have very fond memories of this program and will appreciate the album. And I'd imagine anyone not familiar will resent this uneven, bizarre mix. Very reminiscent of early Ween.

One thing that fascinates me is the manner in which that each listener discovers each release they hear is different. Here I find it fascinating that there is a listener that wouldn’t have heard Norman Fucking Rockwell if it wasn’t for this forum. Like that’s one of the few of the 60 or so albums I’ve heard this year that I definitely would have heard regardless. Different strokes I suppose.

"Discovered" isn't the right word for NFR!- I'd heard Born to Die, knew Del Rey's singles- but I couldn't find a pithy way of saying "wouldn't have listened to if Rob hadn't pointed out I'd gone overboard with my criticism of LDR"! As you can see, my view's not exactly done a 180 yet but I will be spending the rest of the year re-listening to some of these, so you never know...

Elsewhere, Jesus Is King is the only other album I've heard this year that I've sought out just to have an opinion on (a colleague of mine was getting caught up with all the hype about its release; I wasn't having high hopes in light of Kanye's recent output), I've mostly given the rest a go because I like the sound of them or because I otherwise wouldn't have time to fulfil my 4-album-a-day quota (which explains all the EPs).

So do we have a plan as to how we'll be doing EOY and EOD? I presume that EOY will occur before EOD, sometime in January. Has anyone already volunteered? I've got a new job that gives me quite a bit of time to do things like this, so I'd be able to handle either albums or songs for EOY if no one else is claiming them.

Have to concur with 1's superiority, 2 is the most conventional rock album they've done (I can see the The Black Keys' lawyers taking an interest in Like Lightning) but Black Bull is all the more galvanising for its lean approach, while Neptune conversely hints towards a new risk-taking direction. Just my rambling view on it all!

Here's my Top 100, at least as of now. This has been changing a lot, but I feel good about it at the moment. In the end, Weyes Blood's consistency held strong as other contenders came and went.

Not sure if much else is slated for end of year that will challenge even making this list. I'm sure EOY's from The Wire and a few others will get me racing back to what I missed.

Well, i figured that since it's near the EOY, i'd make an ordered list. Gibbs and Eilish have been dominating my taste over the last month and a half, although I won't be surprised if this list changes personally some more.

2. Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
3. Solange - When I Get Home
4. Mixed Matches - Late
5. Ariana Grande - thank u, next
6. Moodymann - Sinner: KDJ-48
7. FKA Twigs - MAGDALENE
8. Malibu Ken - Malibu Ken
9. Toby Molina - Songs From San Mateo County
10. Blood Orange - Angel's Pulse

That's a bold claim for a year where jazz has been more prominent than it has for decades, will have to give it a spin this evening in that case!

This is the 2019 album that everyone can get behind. The lyrics are there for the lyric-heads, the pop sensibility is there for the pop-heads, the experimentation is there for that crowd, and a cool sound is there for the vibers.

I still don't get the love of this album. I've listened to it twice and it's just blah. I always give albums a chance by listening to it more often. Maybe something will grab me but not yet.
Yeah IGOR has worn down on me ever since I first listened to it, back when it first came out in May. Like it’s a good album and all, but from recent listening i’m not too impressed by it anymore. It’s still a consistent set of songs, just not as imaginative as I first believed it to be.
I still haven't listened to it since that last post. I will revisit it again to see if I missed something. I want to see why most loved it some much. It's good that I'm not the only one on here that wasn't that impressed with it.
