The way this game works is that you will be given two sets of four songs, your job is to rank each of the sets from best to worst. First place gets 4 points, second gets 3 etc.

The song with the most points in each set will advance to the semi-finals. If there is a tie for points, then the song with more first place votes will advance. If they are tied on first place votes as well, there will be a sudden death tiebreak. Also the six highest scoring non-winners in the heat stage (based off point per voter and then percentage of first place votes) will also advance to the semi-finals.

Feel free to ask any questions, deadline is next Wednesday at 15:00 UTC.

There are a lot of youtube comments that this is the unofficial NZ anthem, while the single is not even listed at RYM. RYM needs more kiwis (as does AM).

Two well balanced groups, with songs 1 and 2 that stand out. "WITCH | Chifundo" is THE big discovery. I loved it. The guitar is exceptional. One of the best song since the beginning.

This one was already in the right order. I couldn't get into Earthling before, but hearing Dead Man Walking again gives me the feeling I might try it again some day. Very solid overall. Even the cheesy Strung Out is fun.

I usually don't go for Wainwright, because I find his singing voice to whiny, but he does justice to Chelsea Hotel #2. His version is more outspoken melancholic than Cohen's own take. Cohen had a sly sense of humor missing here. Yet it isn't missed. Both approaches work. Like Group Nu this one is very solid overall. It even has the cheesy-yet-fun song, this time by The Exponents.
It seems Why Does Love Do This To Me is on RYM now. Did someone add it to there based on this topic?

Two Sarah Records songs this week (I think both nominated by me but i cant actually remember) - really underrated 80s indie record label from Northern England - I thouroughly reccomend giving some of the stuff they released a listen if you like the Smiths etc. as there are some great deep cuts there. (As far as i know only You Should All be Murdered by Another Sunny Day, Missing The Moon by The Field Mice and C Is The Heavenly Option by Heavenly appear on the AM list)

In New Zealand, Dead Man Walking used to be played during televised cricket coverage when a player got out around '96 / '98.

Agreed. I liked some of the cuts on Outside but this felt like a more cohesive album. I was disappointed when Hours came out - I felt it lost a lot of momentum gained with this release.

Another Sunny Day | I'm In Love With A Girl Who Doesn't Know I Exist (8/10) I luuuve twee pop, this very small chapter of 90s music which really meant something to me. The singer, as usual, can't sing for sh*t, but it's cute. And short !
WITCH | Chifundo (6/10)
David Bowie | Dead Man Walking (5/10) - not the best Bowie, sorry. I am having some difficulties mixing techno beats and his songwriting.
Steve Perry | Strung Out (4/10). Far too much "heartland rock" for me.

The Field Mice | Emma's House (8/10) - see above. I love Field Mice's bass, so prominent and the base for most of the melodies of the band. The singer can sing much better than Another Sunny Day
The J.B.'s | The Grunt (7/10) curious to know if the screeching sax at the beginning was used by Public Enemy as their trademark sample ?
