Could someone confirm that ”Reel Around the Fountain” was properly released as a single in 1983? If so, I will change it to 1983 on AM.
I think it was specifically the Peel Session that was nominated here, not the album version.
It was scheduled to be their second single but got cancelled last minute - so there are some ultra rare test pressings around but it was never properly released in 1983.

The song did make #6 on the 1983 Festive 50 though on the strength of the Peel session.

But the Peel session wasn’t released as a record in 1983, was it?

No it wasn't. The full Peel session was released on record in 1988. Most of the Peel session (including RRTF) was included in 1984's Hatful of Hollow. So RRTF was released on record in 2 versions in 1984. I prefer the Peel session version, but regard it as a 1984 release.

Moonbeam wrote: Yes, your points would be combined with those who vote for it in the 1984 poll. Thanks!

I have been combining accumulated points for the same song across different years for the wildcard standings. There are already 125 songs that have received points in multiple years. Some notable examples where I expect this to happen are with "West End Girls", "Walking on Sunshine", and "Here I Go Again".
Will Blue Monday '88 be counted separately?

I accepted it as a 1983 song on the basis of this release:

https://www.discogs.com/The-Blue-Nile-T ... ster/35790
I wonder if Discogs might be wrong here. it also has 11 '1983' entries for A Walk Across Rooftops, but even though the records do have ℗ and © 1983 on them, I'm fairly sure that it's release year of 1984 is correct, considering that's what the rest of the world seems to agree on.
Hmm. I don't think I'd count "Blue Monday '88" separately, because while it is a separate recording, it is essentially a souped-up version of the 1983 classic. I'd welcome votes for it in 1988, and if there was significant traction, I might include both versions in the final poll and ask users to rank based on their favorite version.

I see what you're saying with regard to "Tinseltown in the Rain". I don't have the expertise to truth-check all of these, so I appreciate any help like this I can get!

Henrik, would you prefer to vote for it in the 1984 poll?

This is another case where what is meant by "release" can be a little sketchy. The Peel sessions were broadcast via radio in 1983, weren't they? And there's the following release which discogs claims came out in 1983: https://www.discogs.com/release/11923761

It's cases like these where the release year is ambiguous for which it makes sense to have a system in which points are accumulated across years.

Not a commercial release though:
'A Rough Trade Promotional Release/Cassette Test-Promo Copymasters'

But since we're accumulating anyway, it doesn't really matter.
