As I did on the last four editions I'm going to include some (minor) stats about the nominated albums:

a) RYM Rating:
Again we have our moderately acclaimed albums mostly with a RYM rating between 3,00 and 3,99 (with 98,42% of the albums included there with 74,8% between 3,51 a 4,00). We are following the trend of the last years with a continuous decline on the overall quality of the albums selected (if the RYM is an indication of quality). This year we had a significant drop of the rating, with a mean of 3,612755906. On the previous 4 years we had a quite similar mean from 2015 to 2017 (3,65503937 in 2015, 3,65265625 in 2016 and 3,6553125 in 2017) with a drop on 2018 (3,623515625) that deepens this year. The graphic shows the reason why, these time we had 51,18% of the albums between 3,51 and 3,75 and only 23,62% between 3.76 and 4,00, the previous years the percentage between 3,51 and 3,75 was 37,5% (2018), 36,71% (2017) and 40,62% (2016).

This year the standard deviation was low (0,213160238) and we had only 3 albums outside the limits (less than 3.00 and higher than 4.00) with 2 albums ranked higher than 4 and 1 album lower than 3. Anyone want to have a guess? Some clues:
a) One of the highest ranked albums is the sixth older album on the tournament.
b) The style of the highest ranked album is (no surprises here) Prog-Rock.
c) The album ranked under 3 was released on 1992, the mean value of year of release of the game (as you can see on the next point).
Any takers?

b) Year of release:
This year we returned to our usual mean, 1992 (it was the same on 3 of the last 5 years). Last year we had a much higher mean, 1995, with a lot of albums from the 2000s decade. This year's recession was in part, as Rob suspected, because of a lot of of Post-Punk albums (there were no less than 8 albums from the year 1980). But mainly it was due to a higher representation of 1990s albums, as you can see on the following graphic:

c) Nationality:

This year we had significantly less albums from USA with a similar increase of the UK albums (Post- Punk again?). And we had 17 different nationalities. On the following graphic you will find the countries with more than one album on the game. The countries with an only album were, alphabetically, Ethiopia, Germany, Iceland, India, Jamaica, Norway, Russia and Senegal.

My nominations performed quite well, 5 of my 6 nominations passed to the second round. Only Ry Cooder's "Paris, Texas" was eliminated.

And now my votes:

3. Fiona Apple - Tidal (1996) vs. 5. Grimes - Art Angels (2015)
4. Tom Waits - Heartattack and Vine (1980) vs. 6. Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975)
8. Margaret Glaspy - Emotions and Math (2016) vs. 2. Ravi Shankar - Shankar Family and Friends (1974)
1. Pauline Oliveros, Stuart Dempster & Panaiotis - Deep Listening (1989) vs. 7. Section 25 - From the Hip (1984)

One of the highest ranked is easy: Animals by Pink Floyd. If I recall correctly it even ranks in the top 25, or at least 50.
The other one I'm not sure of, but if I must guess I'd go for Young Team by Mogwai.

And the 4 Non Blondes album is obvious as the one RYM doesn't like. It is everything RYM hates.

As of my own nominations, I'm used to do well here (as opposed to song based polls, on which my nominations are basically canon fodder), but this year was terrible. Only Jesca Hoop (which is not going to get far) and my Moderately Acclaimed Album of 2018 nomination by Kadhja Bonet proceeded.

Very pleased with how round one turned out. I got 4 of my 6 nominations in. And it looks like I'm guaranteed to have an album in round three - two of my albums wound up facing one another for round two. I won't spoil which ones so not to bias anyone.

1. Fiona Apple - Tidal
2. Tom Waits - Heartattack and Vine
3. Margaret Glaspy - Emotions and Math

Brad and Rob, your guesses were right:
- "Bigger, Better, Faster, More!" by 4 Non Blondes has the lowest RYM rating with 2,75
- And "Animals" by Pink Floyd has the highest rating with 4,10
It only lacks one. Like I said it's an old album, early 1960s...

I think that is the best guess. Unless it is At Last!, but that would surprise me.

I don’t even remember which ones I nominated. There’s at least 2 alive that nobody else but me would have nominated. Not sure if any more.

Yes I have that problem too. There are always a several of my favourite albums nominated. I went back to my PM to Brad and find I still have 4 nominations alive. Surprising really as I tend to go mostly for Unacclaimed albums.

Interesting. All but one of my albums made it to round 2 and the one that didn't missed by one vote. Songs? None made it through round 1. Not even close!

Grimes - Art Angels
Tom Waits - Heartattack and Vine
Margaret Glaspy - Emotions and Math
Section 25 - From The Hip

Fun coincidence that we get Waits and Apple a week after their last appearances. All 4 of the albums in the first two matchups are amazing and it's rough to see two of them go this early.

3 of my 4 albums are still alive! And the album that took the 4th out is in this round...

3. Tidal < 2. Art Angels
Two amazing albums, making a choice was so hard but I had to give it to the one I find more consistent.

1. Heartattack and Vine > 4. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy
Less difficult of a matchup, simply because I adore Heartattack and Waits in general. Captain Fantastic is still good too, one of his better albums.

6. Emotions and Math > 7. Shankar Family and Friends
I felt better about both of these albums this week, but Shankar can be a little annoying at times

8. Deep Listening < 5. From the Hip
I also have more appreciation for Section 25 this week, album is a pretty good listen. Helps it goes up against an album in a genre I don't care for.
