The Band – King Harvest (Has Surely Come): 8

Only one vote for this song? We should know better. I should know better. This is peak Band and peak Band is just irresistible. It's interesting how much Americana I have heard over the year, much inspired by The Band, but how they still sound completely unique. For a few years, they made America seem like a place from an old myth like no one else could, save perhaps novelist Cormac McCarthy. Beautiful.

233. The Band – King Harvest (Has Surely Come) - 8

The vocals, energy and composition are remarkable and the lyrics deal with union issues in an insightful manner. One of my top 4 favorite songs by The Band.

What a great game ! I'm so left behind now on AM, so busy with work and family duties (plus music playing and football) that I totally missed it ! Hope I can reconnect with this, but I'm back to school on monday and I'll be VERY busy. Kudos to you Rob, I'll try to visit the thread as often as i can

Cat Stevens - Where Do the Children Play? 6 An ever-increasingly perceptive message, I just can't warm to Stevens' voice.

The Smiles and Frowns - Cornelius 4 Nothing wrong in itself with looking to elsewhere for inspiration- you could play 'spot the influence' over the course of entire genres that I have time for (glam, punk, Britpop to name a few). The problem is when a band appears to put nothing of themselves in a song, no passion, innovation, personal songwriting or even just catchiness. Sorry to be harsh but this sounds to me like a worn out copy of Sgt Pepper playing from a well.

The Mellows - Lovable Lily 7 Lily, oh Lily, you're the best Hymie so far- this is how you make a derivative song! Leach glides through the song, crooning lyrics that might have seemed bigheaded then but just seems charming now. The whole thing just swings.

Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees - Sin in My Heart 7 Does nothing they wouldn't do better before or since but it's still addictive listening to the Banshees when following their macabre formula.

The Band - King Harvest (Has Surely Come) 6 Should be into The Band as country-rock pioneers but still looking for a song of theirs I can really have strong feelings about, maybe I just need to be more patient.

I missed a few days but here are the remaining ones of August.

Cat Stevens - Where Do The Children Play? - 5

An average acoustic folk song from the early 70s in my opinion. The instrumentation is very soothing but I just don't like his voice. I love Bob Dylan's voice because it has a certain feel behind it, this just sounds like a lack of effort.

The Smiles And Frowns - Cornelius - 6

The Beatles? It grabs my attention thats for sure and I like it but it sounds like a demo or outtake from Sgt Pepper. I wish it was more unique but as a stand alone songs it is nice.

The Mellows - Lovable Lilly - 3

Some of the members are just not listenable. The lead singer is nice but average for her time. Idk this is a bit rough.

Siouxsie And The Banshees - Sin In My Heart - 9

I have a soft spot for goth music and therefore these folks. This is one of the best ones I have heard so far. There isn't much to the song but it all fits together quite nicely.

The Band - King Harvest - 4

I like the subject matter and stuff but overall I am not a fan of this style of music particularly. I don't mind it however when it is done nicely but in general this seems a bit bland.
