Does anyone else feel particularly blessed by the album releases this week? I haven't been paying attention to upcoming releases much but I can't remember the last time a week felt this loaded.

Didn't even know about Nick Cave.
I've been feeling like this for months now and are far, far, far behind. But around this site I recently learned that because none of these albums are an event, we apparently live in a terrible year.

Yeah i’m really excited about the upcoming Danny Brown. The three tracks he’s released are fantastic, and as someone who loved XXX and Atrocity Exhibition, i can say that I can expect his upcoming album will be great.

This is probably a reference to some comments I made on another thread. I just want to say that the lack of an “event” album that dominates critical discourse is in no way a reflection of how good or bad a year is for music, which is entirely up to every listener’s opinion.
Regardless, I’m very excited to listen to all 5 of these albums, in particular Danny Brown and Angel Olsen.

Angel Olsen & Nick Cave probably my top 2 of the year after 1 listen each (& could be 2 of the best for a no. of years). Wilco & Chromatics pretty good too. Couple of Dear Tommy tracks back on Spotify.

Yes, though it was not aimed at you personally. I just thought the focus on event albums and the dislike of the Big Thief album made it seem like we had a bad year, which I don't think is true. No offense meant.

In all honesty, it seems like NFR has been established as “the” 2019 album in critical quarters. As much as I didn’t like it, i gotta say that it’s probably the event album of the year.

I hate to say it but was i the only one disappointed by the Nick Cave one? It just felt like a bloated, less interesting Skeleton Tree without the variation. After one listen of Skeleton Tree i could remember several songs distinctly as they offered different moods/feels (i.e. you couldn't confuse I Need You for Jesus Alone). Every song on Ghosteen is pretty much the same - and i found the ambient pop thing he's going for nowdays, whist it worked for 40 minutes on Skeleton Tree, really drags and gets boring for an 80 minute double album

I’m really enjoying especially the Nick Cave and Wilco albums. There’s also a New Pornographers album I haven’t heard yet but they are considered past their prime.
It still befuddles me how LDR can sound like every guy she’s ever dated is a male character from a network sitcom in the first half of the episode before learning a valuable lesson and get credit for being deep and personal.

The new Danny Brown is fantastic as expected. Not a bad song on that album, and I really like it.
As someone who has never been a fan of Angel Olsen or Nick Cave, i suppose i’m not too surprised that i dislike their latest releases. They both suffer from what i’ll refer to as the “Norman Fucking Rockwell Effect”. Basically, albums by critically acclaimed artists which get worshipped because of their pompous orchestrations and supposed “deep” lyricism. Just because something’s grandiose doesn’t make it good.
On both All Mirrors and Ghosteen, Olsen and Cave respectively are aiming for this lush aesthetic, a cloudy atmosphere which is determined to be the audio equivalent of seeing a ghost. It just ends up sounding pretentious, and lacking of any excitement whatsoever. The songs fall apart in their ambition, and ultimately end up sounding lifeless. I don’t get how this could pass for “sophistication”. It simply doesn’t make any of the songs interesting or substantial.

too much music... my ears will never hear all these albums
the only one I will 80% chance hear is the Danny Brown one

I haven't heard the new Nick Cave yet (I'm planning on listening to it this weekend), but a hard disagree from me on Angel Olsen! I've always been a casual fan of her work, but
All Mirrors blew me away. "Lark" in particular. There are very, very pieces of music that I would call incredibly beautiful and incredibly unnerving at the same time, but that song does it. I'm simultaneously amazed with how heart-wrenching the symphony sounds and how uncomfortable the symphony makes me feel. The song feels like the walls are closing in on me or the world is collapsing (in a good way).
If I did have one complaint it would be that I wish the songs were, well, songier. It was hard to remember many melodies after the album ended. But what an experience!
