Totally '80s: The 1989 Batman film, influenced by Frank Miller and Alan Moore comic books, reset the character in pop culture from "boy scout Batman" in Super Friends and Scooby-Doo, and from the campy Adam West show. "Boy scout Batman" was never heard from again, although the Brave and the Bold cartoons would place dark Batman in generally lighter situations (even a Scooby-Doo reunion). Adam West *was* heard from again, significantly cast as Bruce Wayne's childhood hero in The Animated Series episode "Beware the Gray Ghost." (As for Miller and Moore, among their other '80s comics accomplishments, Miller's overhaul of Daredevil was reflected in the Netflix show; and Moore's Watchmen just became an HBO show.)
