No real time for song reviews this week, except some short comments here and there. It was a good week and a terrific one for hiphop, with which I don't always have the best relation. Makes me want to check some of these albums out.

2. Angel Olsen - Sister

Sister is a big personal favorite, from one of the great albums of the decade. But I finally want to give Atrocity Exhibition a spin now, because this song is great. I didn't expect a tight match-up here.

5. David Bowie - No Plan

4. A Tribe Called Quest - The Space Program
Here I didn't expect a tight match-up either, even if I am familiar with the Tribe and do have a certain fondness for them. Just not as much as with Bowie. But in this case they edge out Bowie.

12. The xx - I Dare You
vs.
1. Mount Eerie - Real Death
One of the few match-ups that is not remotely close. I enjoy I Dare You, but Real Death is for me one of the great masterpieces of the decade. It was my nomination, of course.

11. Craig Finn - God in Chicago

7. alt-J - In Cold Blood
Not much to say about this group. Good lyrics from Craig Finn, but In Cold Blood did more.

16. French Montana ft. Swae Lee - Unforgettable

15. Miley Cyrus - Malibu
Another tight match-up, but I'll be damned if I wouldn't want to swap these with songs from the first two matches. Unforgettable is very much not my taste, whereas I can take or leave Malibu. So there you go.

Fun from The Killers against a surprisingly sober affair - for Alvvays standards that is.

14. Kesha - Praying

Another tight one, but again two that I don't completely embrace. Praying starts strong, but before you know it Kesha thinks she is in a shouting match, something that annoys me quickly. Boredom is mild fun all the way.

The last match-up is again tight. I could go either way, really, but the last time I felt the Pain more.

Sister got me even more convinced it's time I dug in Angel Olsen discography, but I really like the best Danny Brown songs and this is one of them. I like Old better than Atrocity Exhibition (parties sound more fun than anxiety for some reason) but both are great, and I think Danny Brown and Vince Staples are the only rappers who gave Kanye and Kendrick a run for their money in term of evolution and reinvention during the 2010s (I mean I looooove me some RTJ, but the guys are just going through an awesome well worn formula)

A Tribe Called Quest - The Space Program
Unlike most people, I found Thank for Your Service... a bit disappointing, but the opening 2 tracks are pretty great. Late Bowie have his share of great tracks, but that one doesn't do much for me.

Miley's vocal performance is lame.

"The Man" is so unabashed in its joy. Love that energy.

The vocals on "Praying" are a bit too over-the-top for me, and there are a lot of cool production choices on "Boredom."

I like the Oriental-ish sound of "Planet," while "Pain" was decent but forgettable.
