"Festive 50" songs

Post by TheLastEnemy »

For those of you who don't know, particularly those who aren't British:

From 1976 onwards, Britain's top DJ John Peel started compiling his listeners' favourite songs of the year and counting them down at the end of the year. For me this was always a great source of new music that I wouldn't have heard anywhere else (particularly before the internet, Spotify etc.)

Sadly John Peel passed away in 2004, and after 2005 BBC Radio 1 stopped broadcasting the Festive 50. However, a group of like-minded people set up the internet radio station Dandelion Radio as a tribute to John Peel, and carried on the tradition of broadcasting the Festive 50 every year.

A while back I decided to listen to all the songs in the Acclaimed Music all time top 10 000, which I eventually managed to do. I also decided to listen to all the songs from every edition of the Festive 50, but have got stuck on a few, which are so obscure that I can't find them anywhere.

So if anyone knows I can listen to any of the following songs, I would be very grateful:
Aluminium Babe - "Everything 2 Me"
Autochtone - "Last Thing She Ever Said"
(French for) Cartridge - "Fooling Around"
Chalkdust - "Cheddar Would Be Better"
Freed Unit - "Widishins"
gharials - "Maschera"
Hunting Lodge - "Don't Touch My Neck"
Paranormal - "Movin' Twistin' Groovin'"
Seedling - "Sensational Vacuum"
Spidersleg - "Salt"
The Bumblebees - "The Way"
The Chasms - "Blue Sun, Golden Sky"
The Chasms - "Death's Pony"

If anyone wants to know any more about the Festive 50 I have lots of stats and lists...

Thank you

If it's just streaming you're after, I'm having no more success than you are but if you don't mind buying the albums, Discogs brought up these (I'm hoping these links don't come up in Portuguese like they have for me) :

French for Cartridge - Fooling Around is on Cases https://www.discogs.com/Cartridge-Cases/release/9848741
Chalkdust - Cheddar Would Be Better is on Lover of Ponies: Protector of Men https://www.discogs.com/Chalkdust-Lover ... ase/940597
The Freed Unit - Widdershins (I hope it's the same track) https://www.discogs.com/The-Freed-Unit- ... se/1479797
Seedling - Sensational Vacuum is on Elevator Tourist https://www.discogs.com/Seedling-Elevat ... se/3233337

No joy with the rest I'm afraid :( Thanks for the Dandelion rec though- it'll give me another station to tune into when BBC6 is having an off-day! When are Dandelion doing their Festive 50 for this year?

Thanks mileswide, can let you know about the Festive 50 when I find out, but it won't be until the end of December. Dandelion radio doesn't have many shows, so those it has are repeated at different times for a month, so the Festive 50 will be on from late December until late January if last year is anything to go by.

They're still accepting votes by the looks of things:

https://www.dandelionradio.com/festive50.htm if anyone's interested, you just have to vote for your 3 favourite tracks of the year
