Prince - Bambi: 6
That guitar though. I never heard Prince give it such a classic rock sound. Was he auditioning to the join the Scorpions? Really, musically his later style is still unrecognizable, but the vocals and lyrics are unmistakably Prince. It's close to cheese, but I can't help enjoying myself with it.

Prince may dominate this game, but can he keep his distance from Stereolab, who are here with their third song already?

370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm
Year: 1992
Album: Peng!
Biggest Fan: Rumpdoll (#143)

Stereolab – Stomach Worm: 7

Even more guitar solos. I feel a bit sorry for the lady singer whose voice is mixed so that she becomes intelligible, but otherwise this is quite a captivating song, because of, yes, those fuzzy guitars.

If I'm wrong, may 'Lab fans strike me down but I've got a feeling at least one of those lady singers (Laetitia Sadier) is also one of the guitarists on Stomach Worm. To me, this has the semblance of a Fall song given Stereolab production with its rockabilly rhythm and emphasis on repetition, making it an experiment worthy of a 7.

Prince - Bambi 5 PRN (even his initials are almost obscene) sounds fully comfortable rawking out but I'm not while listening to him do so, he brings nothing new to the genre here either.

I always play Laurie Anderson on weddings. She is always a hit. Gets the crowds dancing.

Laurie Anderson – Big Science: 7
But seriously, since I consider O Superman a favorite it is a bit of a shame I have not yet played Big Science, both album and song. At least the last is remedied now. It sounds like a slight less esoteric O Superman and even the lyrics make more sense, but that also means it doesn't have that classic's mysterious appeal. Still, a captivating track, that captured the feeling of modern alienation in a way not too dissimilar to OK Computer, but a lot earlier.

Throughly enjoyed this batch.

364. Röyksopp, featuring Robyn – The Girl and the Robot - 7.5
365. The Format – Time Bomb - 7.5
(I didn't know either of the above 2 tracks, but really liked them both)
366. Global Communication – 4:14 - 3
367. Kari Jobe – Revelation Song - 5.5
368. Mama Cass – It’s Getting Better - 8.5
369. Prince - Bambi - 7
(I was thinking, "oh no not another Prince track", but really rather enjoyed this - had the wrong assumption, for some reason, I wouldn't like 1979 Prince)
370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm - 6.5
371. Laurie Anderson – Big Science - 6
372. Robbie Williams – No Regrets - 9.5
(I'm a big fan of Robbie & the two featured Neils - Tennant and Hannon - the ending of this song may well be my favourite of any song)
But I was caught, like a fleeting thought,

369. Prince - Bambi - 6
370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm - 9 - a classic Lab track, from their early days. They didn't get a VU-influenced hallmark by mistake. Random noise ? Abso-f**ing-lutely.

Robbie Williams – No Regrets: 5

From that late 90's early 2000's period when Robbie Williams was everywhere on Dutch radio and every single turned into a hit. Except this one, which I think did well in some other countries, but not around here. Therefor it is a rare Robbie single that from that time I don't know by heart simply because it wasn't overplayed. It's fine, but a bit bland. He has better songs, in my opinion.

365. The Format – Time Bomb: 5 Un-original, bounces along fine.
366. Global Communication – 4:14: 7 I like but rarely love this kind of thing.
367. Kari Jobe – Revelation Song: 2 Nooooo
368. Mama Cass – It’s Getting Better: 6
369. Prince - Bambi: 7.5 This is a side of Prince that I like.
370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm: 7 I like and quite often love this sort of thing.
371. Laurie Anderson – Big Science: 6.5 Some people don't like people or human progress, at least it is pleasant on the ear.

Intimidated by Stereolab, Prince decided to show up with a second song this week. And he is bringing big guns, because this time he has a ranked song. You’ll find it at #6902 on AM. It is also a rare Prince track not brought to you by Moonbeam:

373. Prince - Adore
Year: 1987
Album: Sign ‘o’ the Times
Biggest Fan: Jap123 (#621)

Prince - Adore: 6
A very different song than Bambi. Whereas that one was straight rock, this is a very busy ballad with a lot of elements that I still have to unpick. I'm not someone who has Sign 'o' the Times memorized and I couldn't recall Adore. It isn't very immediate, but worth a close listen. I could just as well see this becoming one of the album's growers as well as just another song on there.

I mean it is fine, has good intentions and works well as pleasant background music, but musically it is cliched and the lyrically even more so.

I don't usually have time to participate regularly in this game but given a song on my list that i know very well has come up i'll rate it.

Prince - Adore - 10

I'm really surprised given how many Prince deep cuts have come up here that i was the only person to list what I thought was one of the more well known tracks off his most acclaimed album. It has always been one of my favorites off Sign O the Times and in my opinion his best 'slow jam' (followed closely by Slow Love from the same album).

How You Like Me Now by The Heavy has been number one twice in these results. Now it seems that Bootsy through Kool Moe Dee tries to copy their success. Will he succeed?

Rob, there's a discrepancy in the numbering from Prince - Adore.

369. Prince - Bambi I love the rocking Prince. 9.5/10
370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm I rarely hang on to stereolab, but this one's not bad in her incessant haste. 6.5/10
371. Laurie Anderson – Big Science Phew, a little change. A good old-fashioned electro keyboard and I live again. 8/10
372. Robbie Williams – No Regrets A hit that leaves me cold! While I like Robbie Williams in the big pop stain kind of way! 5/10
373. Prince - Adore Ballads are what I like least about Prince. The least good Sign 'O' the Times song for me by far. It's the only song I ever skipped off the album. 6/10
374. Kris Drever – Steel and Stone (Black Water) Not my style at all. 4.5/10
375. Kool Moe Dee – How Ya Like Me Now I had a good laugh watching the video. And I have to admit it's the kind of rap that's getting better and better for me. 6/10

From a time when funk was perhaps the most common reference point for rappers. There are still rappers that use funk elements, but there is something about the way this Jedi Picasso rhymes his way around the James Brown grooves that is clearly from another era, in a good way. Not my favorite type of thing in the world, but sure fun.

You may have put your finger on why I like lots of the rap from the 1980s, but little of today's stuff. The movement away from funk which I hadn't identified before may be the reason, since I have no interest in lyrics, and most rap is about lyrics.

Oh so this is the singer from fun.'s original band. Now I know why they seem familiar. It's good, too.
366. Global Communication – 4:14 - 4
367. Kari Jobe – Revelation Song - 3
I don't know what it is but I just hate contemporary Christian music. Gospel, fine. Religious themes, good. But something about modern worship music really turns me off. This one's better than most... but... eh.
368. Mama Cass – It’s Getting Better - 5
369. Prince - Bambi - 7
This would be higher if it was just an instrumental.
370. Stereolab – Stomach Worm - 6
371. Laurie Anderson – Big Science - 5
This is better than O Superman but I still don't get her.
372. Robbie Williams – No Regrets - 4
373. Prince - Adore - 8
374. Kris Drever – Steel and Stone (Black Water) - 7
It's not remarkable but it pushes all the right buttons, especially the accent. Slightly embarrased to score it this high though.
375. Kool Moe Dee – How Ya Like Me Now - 8
Agree on the points about funk-influenced rap above. Also the music video shows how society's perceptions of the word "kool" have changed over time...

It’s been a while since we last had a classical piece. We get an extra-long one today, albeit a more recent one than most. As per usual, I just picked a version from Spotify. If Sonofsamiam has a preferred recording, please let me know.

376. Alfred Schnittke – Symphony No. 1: I. Senza Tempo. Moderato
Year: 1974
Biggest Fan: Sonofsamiam (#35)

376. Alfred Schnittke - Symphony No. 1: I. Senza Tempo. Moderato: 9/10

Without knowing the entire symphony and without having listened to any of Schnittke's work, I can say that this is pretty magnificent. He combines a lot of different ideas and goes in unexpected directions, and the result is a chaotic work I really enjoyed. I should probably check out more of Schnittke's work (if/when I have the time...).

Alfred Schnittke – Symphony No. 1: I. Senza Tempo. Moderato: 6
What can you say about a thing like this? It's 20 minutes that feel like a chaotic remix of everything classical. At moments sublime, at other moments barely noticeable. I'm not sure if I like it or dislike it. Depends on which point in the piece and my general mood. Needs more than three listens for sure, but I am not quite convinced that I will ever love it... Or maybe I will.

373. Prince - Adore - 7
375. Kool Moe Dee – How Ya Like Me Now - 8
376. Alfred Schnittke – Symphony No. 1: I. Senza Tempo. Moderato - 10

Thought I'd catch up, and make sure I got my vote in for Schnittke! For those that like this or are otherwise further curious, I recommend the whole symphony (the second movement has jazz influences). The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra version is my favorite (plus super-cool album art, part of a Schnittke series). As far as the music, I love the wild smorgasbord he put together, though I can see how this would be very polarizing.
