I've been loving everything Megan Thee Stallion is involved in this year: the "Savage" remix with her fellow Houstonian Beyoncé, "Girls in the Hood" and recently that filthy single "WAP" with Cardi B. Her charisma is undeniable.

Nina Hagen released a new song together with George Clinton (the Funkadelic/Parliament guy), called "Unity". It's her first original material in nine years (I think). I like it a lot.

Apparently a version of this song has been relased since July, and I'm only now hearing of it. Shame on me...

I want to drop in and say nothing else in 2020 has moved me as much as "anything" did. The mundane details of every day life is perfectly captured in this stunner and the melody. Sigh. I want to cry when the song reaches "I wanna sleep in your car when you're driving. Lay in your lap while I'm crying" :(((

"Maestranza" by Fleet Foxes off their new album Shore caught me by surprise. It almost feels like an R&B track and as always, Robin Pecknolds has one of the very best voices out there. His timbre is bright, piercing with enough warmth to balance it out.

Here's my 3/4 of the way through the year list. I spent a lot of the last few months listening to older music for the AT albums poll, so this isn't that different than the last list I posted outside of adding a few new discoveries from the ongoing 2020 songs tournament.

After hearing my boyfriend playing "peace" by Taylor Swift in the shower several times, I've come to love how delicate, calm and soulful this song is. The gorgeous guitar playing sort of reminds me of Prince, and I thought the songwriting is very strong overall.

With the critics becoming more and more poptimist over the years, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "Savage" by Megan Thee Stallion (ft. Beyonce) is a surefire top 5 single on the EOY list.

In all likelihood "WAP" will be in the top 20.

Honestly, I like Cardi B at times, like I was her biggest fan of her 2018 album in EOD poll, but like I just don't like WAP at all.

I think Shameika is going to be up pretty high, as well as something from RTJ4, SMHOFI, and probably I Contain Multitudes, or some other Dylan song/

Songs with huge cultural relevance such as "WAP" and "Savage (Remix)" will be included for sure. I'd say "Spotlight" by Jessie Ware would make it pretty high on most lists too.

I usually wait until the EOY lists before focusing on lone songs instead of albums, but I decided to get a head start this year. This should be a good way to break through some bad habits, though I'm still using MCCh's top three songs and singles from those albums as a guideline. As such, I'm ignorant of the big songs not on the big albums.

Not ready to rank them yet, but here are my top three tiers (only 50 albums through the MCCh, so this is very much a work in progress):

Tier 1:
Fiona Apple - Heavy Balloon
Phoebe Bridgers - I Know the End
Jessie Ware - Spotlight

Tier 2:
Bob Dylan - Murder Most Foul
Charli XCX - Forever
Fiona Apple - Shameika
Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts
Perfume Genius - On the Floor
Sufjan Stevens - America
Sufjan Stevens - My Rajneesh
Waxahatchee - Lilacs

Tier 3:
Adrienne Lenker - Zombie Girl
Caribou - Never Come Back
Crack Cloud - Ouster Stew
Fiona Apple - Newspaper
Fontaines D.C. - I Don't Belong
Jessie Ware - Save a Kiss
Makaya McCraven - Where Did the Night Go
Moses Sumney - Polly
Moses Sumney - Virile
Perfume Genius - Describe
Perfume Genius - Jason
Phoebe Bridgers - Kyoto
Porridge Radio - Lilac
Rina Sawayama - Comme des Garcons (Like the Boys)
Rina Sawayama - XS
Soccer Mommy - Circle the Drain
Sufjan Stevens - Make Me an Offer I Can't Refuse
Sufjan Stevens - The Ascension
U.S. Girls - 4 American Dollars

Anything great(and rock) from the second half of this year?
Well I'd imagine you have already heard it, but System of a Down - Genocidal Humanoidz is pretty cool.
Yeah, I've heard it and it is cool. I guess it's great news for metal fans that SOAD are back.

Arsalan, I think you'd be a big fan of the new Bring Me the Horizon. Check out "Teardrops", but really I'd recommend the whole project. I think it's the best mainstream rock record of the year.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, Since the beginning of the 21st century mainstream rock has become so bad. The only 2 great mainstream rock bands from the last 20 years are Linkin Park and Twenty One Pilots imo.

If I felt that there had only been two great mainstream rock bands for the past two decades, I might try looking outside the mainstream for great rock music.

I was talking about American bands (who have released their debut album over the past 20 years) and US Billboard chart only.

I started listening to Amo and thought it was very good. Do you recommend any songs from the"Music to Listen To" EP?

I haven't heard "Music to Listen To." From what I've heard, it sounds more like an experiments/B-sides type project.
