The Knife – From Off to On: 8
There is a certain magic in the best music of The Knife that I find hard to describe, but is very unique to them. Take this song, which nobody would describe as the most iconic track from Silent Shout, but there is a sense of space, atmosphere and even silence here that I find spellbinding. This is a hard eight the best track since some weeks.

Gastr del Sol – Mouth Canyon: 4

A project of Jim O'Rourke, one of those names I know and I think I tried something from, but if I did it must have made little impact. This song doesn't either. It's rather curious, as its electronic sound reminds me of ambient, but without the sense of mood. There is something slightly disruptive about it that keeps pulling me out of the atmosphere. There is no forward momentum, so the song just kind of lies there. Something about the voice annoys me, as if it ever-so-slighty to highly pitched. And the lyrics mean nothing to me. Outside of a certain prettiness I wasn't too taken with this.

The Flaming Lips - A Spoonful Weighs a Ton 8 Coyne could nearly get away with murder by singing, so effective are his tricks in making us (ok, me) teary-eyed. The harp notes only add to the beautiful melancholy. Like elsewhere on The Soft Bulletin, Steven Drozd thumps his drumkit like it's his last chance (it sort of was; he stopped being the main drummer on Yoshimi).

The Eyeliners - Think of Me 7 I remember this from the Classics Chart! Pop-punk that could do with having some grit to it that isn't purely sugar but there's something nostalgic about songs of this ilk, hopefully not just because I could picture them in early 00s high-school comedies.

The Knife - From Off to On 8 Could easily function as background music if you wanted but give it your attention and its ominous undercurrent gets under your skin.

Gastr Del Sol - Mouth Canyon 6 The Lips must've got me in the mood for high-pitched alt-rock vocals as I find this an immensely listenable mix of ideas- Eno-ish piano, piercing harmonica, periodically twangy guitar- that blend together well, albeit frustratingly without any real resolution.
All I got inside is vacancy!

Most of you guys are too young to remember, but when this band first appeared there were wild rumors going around that it was the Beatles in disguise.

Puppetmastaz - Hip Hop Police: 6
I expected this to be more of a parody than it is. It is funny in it's way, but outside of some puppet references and puns these are actually quite typical hip hop lyrics. It is quite fun, rather traditional stuff, with a solid flow. Not among the best hip hop I heard, but even more so not among the worst.

Well, here I can believe it. This sounds quite like a Beatle songs, although the lyrics are again rather weird and not very Beatle-like. I quite like it and although it doesn't match the uniqueness of Long Live Politzania (little does), I prefer this.

It's the time of The Beatles!

Rufus Wainwright - One Man Guy - 9
For Rufus, I only know that he was known for his song, "Across the Universe", a cover of The Beatles song.

Klaatu - Everybody Took a Holiday - 6
Beside more known for their song, "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" (covered by The Carpenters), Klaatu is also known by some peoples as "The Beatles" from Canada.

Vince Staples – Crabs in a Bucket: 9/10

Amazing track. When I heard the intro come on unexpectedly a few weeks ago I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. My first guess was some old Streets record. Great UK garage throwback.

Also: The Knife – From Off to On: 5/10

Not a highlight on Silent Shout.

Vince Staples – Crabs in a Bucket: 7

It's a bit hard to rate, although even though it is the album opener, it feels instinctively part of something bigger, but since I didn't hear Big Fish Theory I don't know if that feeling is correct. However, after a few listens I do have to give that there is a lot of atmosphere here and Staples has a great flow in his rapping, so despite missing something of a real pay-off it is a very good listen.

Huh, I see my Rufus Wainwright vote has gone missing. I'm sure I wrote something.
One Man Guy is a cover of Rufus' father Loudon Wainwright. Playing your father's songs is not necessarily the most inviting career move, but it works here. I'm usually not into Rufus' whiny/ bored sounding voice, but I can't deny he has a sense of melody. That sets this version apart. Whereas Loudon made an almost country-like finger-picking tune (with a voice I like more, I have to add), Loudon made something more smooth. Both versions would be a 7.

Space – Magic Fly: 8

A bit old-fashioned, but not in a bad way. I want to watch an old sci-fi movie when I hear this.

I see the band's name a pretty long time ago mostly on Wikipedia (this name featured especially on disambiguation pages some times). However, I never hear their songs because how the weight of the popularity can be watched on Billboard and only Billboard know something. I hope, Billboard have a page about this band.
