Album of the Month: February 2020

Post by BleuPanda »

Try to listen to and then rank as many of the albums below; the deadline is April 21 at midnight.

February Albums:
Boniface - Boniface
BTS - Map of the Soul: 7
Caribou - Suddenly
Grimes - Miss Anthropocene
King Krule - Man Alive!
Kvelertak - Splid
Lanterns on the Lake - Spook the Herd
Makaya McCraven - We're New Again - A Re-imagining
Soccer Mommy - Color Theory
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush

To generate this list, I took the top 10 albums of the month according to McCH; if I overlooked a release during that time or any of these albums actually fall outside of February, please let me know

Kvelertak - Splid (9/10) - I loved their debut and this is almost as good. Looks like the Norwegians are at the top of their game at the moment (Slotface last month, now this ?)
Soccer Mommy - Color Theory (9/10)

Makaya McCraven - We're New Again - A Re-imagining (7/10) - much better than expected and actually slightly better than the original.
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush (6/10) - The singles are good, but not enthralled by the Supertramp sound.
Caribou - Suddenly (6/10)
Grimes - Miss Anthropocene (5/10)
Boniface - Boniface (5/10)
BTS - Map of the Soul: 7 (5/10)

King Krule - Man Alive!
Lanterns on the Lake - Spook the Herd

1 week left (but might give this one an extra week since people might not realize it shares a deadline with January's poll)

5. King Krule - Man Alive! (7/10) - this is FAR better than his first two albums, which I loathed with a vengeance. I could not stand his voice. On Man Alive!, the focus is on the music, and the singing is not as off-key as it used to be. Menacing, dark and lethargic album. Perfect for the confinement !
6. Tame Impala - The Slow Rush (6/10) - The singles are good, but not enthralled by the Supertramp sound.
7. Caribou - Suddenly (6/10)
8. Grimes - Miss Anthropocene (5/10)

Only a few more days left; I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep this going if we're only receiving a few votes, unfortunately.

taking in consideration that i'm new here, there's a lot that i've missed so far.
However, i just wanted to say that thanks to this thread, i found lots of new super hits to add to my collection when doing easy recipes. i found some of the best songs among your lists and i wanted to say big thanks for this album.

:( FWIW, I am still working through March's, just overwhelmed by the glut of good albums in the last month...
