RIP Adam Schlesinger

Post by luvulongTIM »

COVID-19 related sadly. I always preferred them to the Shins, in fact Welcome Interstate Managers probably ranks in my top 5 for the entire decade of the 00s. They got heat for Stacy especially from classic rock aficionados but it was more than just that single which wasn’t even close to their best. Just found out their lead singer is British which now makes so much sense in retrospect considering their influences...minus of course the Cars. Anyway really sad to hear. He wasn’t afraid to go out and work with pop artists who were considered irrelevant and would cramp his style. He did great work with the likes of Taylor Hanson even of all people.

He was fucking brilliant and incredibly versatile. What a terrible loss.

That Thing You Do!, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Music & Lyrics, A Colbert Christmas, Sesame Street - in addition to his work with Fountains of Wayne, Adam was an absolute master of pastiche, operating in seemingly every rock & pop genre at one point or another.. RIP.

Yeah along with Henry “the Fonze” Winkler of all people, the FOY were of a very few amount of people to not look so highly on Tom Hanks who didn’t give them any real credit for being the band behind the band in his movie. Luckily that move didn’t “jump the shark” on their careers but it would have been cool if Adam and Tom Hanks cleared the air being that they had that both know what it’s like to suffer from that awful virus.
