AMF Albums Aggregated, Current Edition!

Post by Holden »

If you can believe it, I have managed to add in all of the polls from the very first in 2005 through today, and aggregated them into one list! Personally, I like this list quite a bit-it keeps the general structure of the AM list while also adding in the little forum favorites! Thanks for doing this.

Please note that there is only one "n" at the end of Rundgren :-)

The only surprise here for me was TV On The Radio. They are one of my most favourite bands ever but I don't see them mentioned that much on the forum anymore. I guess they've just slipped under the radar in recent times...

Interesting list. After the inevitably predictable first 200 or so things start to feel pretty random. What did you include, Holden? Everything that allowed us to rank or rate albums in one way or another?

Every all time list, EOY lists, the yearly decade lists including individual year lists as separate entities, and the EOD lists and the one 2010-2014 list

Newer albums additionally get a boost in points starting with albums from 2006 as they couldn’t have been on every possible list

And I would say that after around 200 or so it probably does get rather random, as point differences become smaller and smaller, and the system is rather mean to albums only on one EOY lists. However, I would say any album from before around 2005 in the 200-300 range is, in general, more liked by the forum than an album from the same range that is in the 500-600 range, and that generalizations like that can be applied throughout, though specific orders may not be the most precise.

Hello, everybody! I hope you all enjoyed this post, and I would love to improve the rankings, and I think I figured out just the way to do it-by including the number of participants in each poll in the weighting formula. If anyone would like to help with this task, I've posted a spreadsheet below with an available column for entering the number of participants in each poll. Feel no pressure to help out, this is far from a necessary task, but if anyone isn't doing anything and would like to help make AMF Aggregated a little bit better, feel free!

Hi Holden, I recently noticed (thanks to andyd1010) that the links for the polls about 1900-1949 songs, 1950s albums and song and 1960s albums and songs that we made back in 2010 were not correct. I don't know if you want to include it in the general aggregation but anyway the correct links are:
The overview
1900-1949
1950s albums
1950s songs
1960s albums
1960s songs

Thanks for this! But I actually included all of these, and instead dug through the Old Forums to find them!
