Surprised to see that The Smile Sessions got absolutely no support from the critics on the EOD lists. They really don't go for archival releases I guess.

I saw that some people voted for Smile Sessions, but didn't realize it was officially eligible. If I had voted for it, it would've been my #3, but it still doesn't feel right listing it next to true 2010s albums. I'm curious how highly it would place if me and everyone else viewed it as a proper 10s album - top 20?

I enjoyed seeing Sons of Kemet, Ondatropica, Jaar, Gang Gang Dance, Mbongwana Star, and Susanne Sundfor in that last section. Some nice AMF specials in that group.

There were also a few I'm shocked to see this low: what happened to UFOF and Honey??

I like that hip hop is doing better than in the song list. This decade is gonna have many hip hop classics (beyonce Kanye/Kendrick discography).

Also, for me it's a surprise to find Ondatrópica in the top 200. It deserve everything,

The Better Oblivion Community Center album has two "biggest fans" (both placed the album in their top tens). So I'm guessing the biggest fan section is for anyone who places an album in their top ten, and if nobody does, then it defaults to the person who placed it the highest on their list.

I think it's simply that, just like the critics, we have a bias against 2017-2019, so new albums are just going to end up lower than if all the years were treated equal.

Some surprises too. I didn't expect All Mirrors to show up anymore, but happy it does. So close to usual favorite Burn Your Fire for No Witness too. The very high placement of Bury Me At Makeout Creek is perhaps good news for the remaining and far more famous Mitski albums.

Didn't know I'm Easy to Find was all that popular though. For me it is the National album where they lost me somewhat. I guess it's good showing here means that their remaining albums could possibly over-perform like Bloodbuzz Ohio did.

Nice showings for Loud City Song, Cosmogramma, Kindred, You Won't Get What You Want, and Hadestown! Lots of cool stuff and surprises in that last section.

I'd say the biggest surprises are:
1. Blonde at 54 - wow!
2. Magdalene beating LP1 by 44 places, especially in a poll in which recent albums didn't do very well
3. Remind Me Tomorrow being outside the top 100, way behind Are We There, and behind several 2019 albums that it easily beat only a few months ago in the EOY poll
4. Pure Heroine making the T100. Maybe this shouldn't have been a surprise after nearly everyone voted for Royals in the songs poll...
5. Bad As Me, In a Poem Unlimited, Push the Sky Away, Once I Was an Eagle and m b v missing the top 100.
6. Two Hands beating UFOF

Maybe a little less surprising considering it only finished #7 in our original 2016 EOY poll. It managed to beat A Seat at the Table and We Got It From Here... this time around, though both of those albums seemed somewhat low to me too. Come to think of it, so did Skeleton Tree! Funny results from 2016 albums here, though the perhaps Bowie, Radiohead, and Beyonce will redeem the year in the top 50.

It's not as remarkable as it might seem at first glance. The reviews to MAGDALENE were really stunning, probably on par with LP1. I don't know about Blonde. If I recall correctly the response to it on this forum when it came out was rather muted, although it did make the top 10 of our EOY poll. It's current placement seems about right. I only listened to it for the first time recently and liked it more than I thought, considering Channel Orange wasn't my thing. I didn't vote for it though.

Am I the only one who thought Grimes' Visions would be a lock for top 50? It always seems this forum loves every thing she does. But there is Divers one step ahead, a Joanna Newsom I tend to think of as overlooked.

In the end, I like that things aren't all that predictable.

After Titanic Rising's surprise victory in the 2019 EOY poll, NFR sure got its revenge here. Same with Melodrama crushing every 2017 album, but that wasn't a huge surprise to me after the songs poll. Interesting to see that Channel Orange also underperformed expectations after most of us expected it to be in the top 10.

I probably should've seen Channel Orange underperforming after Blonde did, but it was still a shock. I'm also a bit sad that Titanic Rising was the first #1 to go out, but oh well.

Though no one is probably surprised to see it do well, This is Happening was a stealth outperformer. It only finished 8 in the EOY poll and 14 in the 2010-2014 poll. I didn't realize it had three #1's.

And thus concludes the rollout of the end-of-decade albums poll! I didn't realize this until midway through the rollout, but this was the first end-of-decade poll where the forum was actually around and active for the length of that whole decade. I started lurking on this site sometime around 2010, so it's been a pleasure to watch it grow and an honor to run this poll.

Anywho, here's the spreadsheet for anyone's curiosity! I will warn, it's quite possible there are some transposition errors - a person's vote being logged in the wrong column, like when I accidentally listed Jeff as the #9 voter for A Moon-Shaped Pool rather than Gillingham - but I feel very confident that all of the point values are correct. One of the biggest surprises is Frank Ocean underperforming in both polls (mainly albums though). Another surprise is, in my opinion, the over performance of Arcade Fire! Did not expect to see The Suburbs at #2, or many of there songs to be as high as they were.
