Nowadays large TV's are pretty much the norm, so the joke here has almost gone lost. I didn't think it wasn't that funny of a joke anyway. The song itself straddles the line of annoying. I'm not huge on Weird Al, as may be clear because I don't keep up with the various rules that apply to spelling his name, but some of his songs are undeniably clever. I just don't think this is one of them.
I don’t think the humor is the best part of the song. I think it’s just lovely musically.
I agree; while I do find it it funny, it was on my list because it's a beautiful style parody of R.E.M.

Exactly! It’s gentle humor, not anything you bust a gut laughing at.

Another one I’m really surprised isn’t mine. In hindsight, I’d put it above Thrift Shop (which IS on my list and I stand by it) and give it a 9.

Way too repetitive for my tastes. There is barely any discernible development in its five minutes.

I hear a hint of David Bowie here. Maybe it is just the voice. Not a bad song; just missing that final touch to be something truly memorable.

Chilliwack – Baby Blue: 6
There is some good guitar playing on here, but the vocalist comes close to ruining the whole thing. A natural singer he ain't.

Totally in agreement Rob, I was listening to this and had to check if Bowie wasn't guest starring on this track. It's quite uncanny.

Chilliwack - Baby Blue : 6
DD Smash - Whaling : 5

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us : 7,5 (not sure why they are not getting a modicum of acclaim for that and Thrift Shop, Macklemore isn't exactly a great rapper but those are hugely popular, pretty well produced catchy songs. I don't know a lot of songs from the decade that will light up a party like that one)

I'm a little confused as well. I get that Thrift Shop and Same Love are polarizing, but Can't Hold Us is an incredibly well-produced track with amazing rapping from Macklemore. I highly recommend looking up live performances he's given of that song, since the way the crowd loses their mind at the "na-na-na-na" part is really something to behold.

Since I already brought their live album Band of Gypsies to Moderately Acclaimed this year it is no surprise I really like this group. This is not as wild and organic as their live recordings, but still soulful and unpredictable gypsy music.

Brazilian music and to an extend Jorge Ben don't click with me a lot of the time, but this is extremely catchy and lively. Also a good fit for today's hot tempartures.

589. Billy Joel – Prelude/ Angry Young Man - 7

This song is on my list, presently my 760th favorite of all time. Please check with panam regarding whether this song was actually on his list as well.

We saw Billy Joel perform at Stony Brook in 1976. It was a fantastic show and this song was the highlight of the show for me.

I was afraid this would be the second time I had to disqualify Billy Joel, but no, Panam did not vote for this song. I seem to have forgotten to change the name from yesterday's nominator to today. This is yours, Henry.

Billy Joel – Prelude/ Angry Young Man: 7
A bit difficult to rate. This is a very good tune, with lots going on and a lot of development. As such it can stand with it's best works. However, Billy Joel is sometimes deservedly criticized for looking down on his characters and this is about the worst offender I have yet come across. He seems to start of sympathetic to the plight of the angry young man, but eventually decides that he himself has risen above it in some of the most unnecessarily disdainful lyrics you'll find. It is really a turn-off and it might start to irritate after more listens.
