AMF WC Classics Edition 90

Post by spiritualized »

It's time for instalment n°90 of the Classics Chart, where YOU get to nominate and vote for the best songs ever in a tournament to the death ! Only the cream of the crop will go through the grueling EIGHT weeks of charting.

Nominations will follow the rules below :

- only the first top 1000 AM song nominated each week is eligible.
- only the first six top AM 1001-10000 songs nominated each week is eligible.
- that would leave 3 places each week reserved for un-acclaimed songs (if more than 3, the fourth unranked song will take the spot of a second tier one)

For this week - Nominations are closed !

Top Tier (1-1000)

Second Tier (1001-10,000)

Third Tier (bubbling and unranked)

:scared-shocked: 123 votes last week (-2 votes)
:scared-shocked: On the top step of the podium : Oasis' Stand By Me
:scared-shocked: New Entries : Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer / Smokey Robinson & The Miracles / Frankie Valli / Schoolboy Q
:text-bump: Kicked out this week : Handsome Boy Modelling School /.Ludwig Van Beethoven / Martin Gore
:text-bump: The Cure reaches the Hall of Fame !

The Gregory Brothers - Obama Mic Drop (1999)

I think it is time I nominate a song that it fun, silly, and not serious in any stretch of the imagination. But god damn is it stuck in my head.

Whole part (1, 2, and 3), not only part 2 but also the whole part. Because I like super long Pop songs, this time I'm nominating the whole part of "Another Brick in the Wall". So, I'm nominating not only 3-minute songs forever.

I see. I am not sure if it is allowed though because by technicality they are three different songs on The Wall

And more than that, I believe Part 2 is the only one ranked at #407, what with it being the most successful and well-liked part.

Yes, Part 2 was ranked at #407. I'm apologize if this position given to the whole part. So, here's my edit:
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall (Whole Part) (Unranked)

I still nominating the whole part although the whole part was unranked on AM. So, let me nominating super long Pop songs too!

Well, even if spiritualized should have the last word, I think we could close the conversation about "Another Brick in the Wall" because:
- It's a second nomination, the first one is Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet" and it's the one spiritualized would surely use on the 91 edition (by the way, I don't know why some of you post two nominations while spiritualized usually only uses the first one).
- There is not a song called "Another Brick in the Wall (Whole Part)" so you can't nominate this. I mean you can't provide a Spotify link that include the three parts. If you go to "The Wall" album you can perfectly see that these three parts are not even sequenced together (there are 6 songs between "Part Two" and "Part Three"). I can provide the opposite example coming also from Pink Floyd: the first track on the album "Wish You Were Here" is called "Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5" but it's only one track in Spotify. This song meet the rules for being nominated but not the three parts of "Another Brick in the Wall" together.
Sorry if I sounded rude or paternalistic but I thought the conversation was verging on absurdity.

Nuff said !
I doubt very much it would have been eligible by the order of nomination, and then the technicalities. We'll go without.

Sorry Spiritualized, I noticed a couple of things incorrect:
- I Second That Emotion is ranked 2260, not unranked.
- The version of Wondrous Place on the playlist is from a 2018 album where an orchestra has been dumped into it like they seem to like doing a lot lately. It's not the real version.
- I don't think you can really claim Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) is unranked either just because it's a live version. It's ranked 570.

1- OK fixed
2- OK fixed (I hope !!)
3- I was actually wondering about this - my nomination, but I specifically wanted that version. It is a tough one, really. What about "No Woman No Cry" - the Live Version is the acclaimed one, but does this mean that the studio version is the same ?
What kind of rules has there been regarding live versions in previous games / charts ?

Thanks Spiritualized, that's the right version of Billy Fury's Wondrous Place now. 😀 It's a fantastic song - it's probably the most surprising song to me that isn't in the AM list.

I Second The Emotion still says unranked though.

I think it's fine (in fact good - especially in this case) to nominate a specific version, but the AM rank covers all versions is my understanding - so it would be the same for any games using the AM rank.
