Results: Top 150 Artists of the 2010's

There were some delays along the way but I’m happy to finally present the top 150 artists of the 2010’s. These were the people we enjoyed most listening to during the past decade, defining our lives with their sounds. There is a great variety of styles presented here, proving once again that the 2010’s were not as easy to pigeonhole in genres as one might be lead to believe.
Let’s first thank the following 36 people for voting in this poll:
- acroamor
- Akhenaten
- andy1010
- ArcadeFire
- Arselan
- BleuPanda
- bonnielaurel
- Chris K.
- Cold Butterfly
- Dan
- Edre Peraza
- Father2theMan
- Franklotion
- Gillingham
- Henry
- Holden
- Honorio
- Jackson
- LunarPiper
- Madzong
- mcfearless
- Michel
- Mileswide
- Moonbeam
- Nassim
- Neil
- PlasticRam
- prosecutorgodot
- Rob
- Rocky Raccoon
- Schüttelbirne
- sonofsamiam
- Toni
- votingbloc
- Wezzo
- Wisnu Tirta Aji
Together they voted for no less than 804 separate artists! Nonetheless, I wanted the final list to contain only artist who had at least 2 votes and in contrast to our recent decade polls for songs and albums I wanted a round final number and the first that showed up was #150. To give some more context, with only a single vote that would be at #1 you would end up at #187 in the list.
A few notes before the countdown starts:
- In my naivety I didn’t notice upfront that some people voted for similar people in different ways. For example Killer Mike is in Run the Jewels, but also had some solo work released. Some people voted for both Run the Jewels and Killer Mike separately, some for one of both and some made a combination under the guise “Killer Mike/ Run the Jewels”. Since I saw it too late and there were already too many delays I decided to think of a solution myself instead of questioning the forum. I decided to solve this by counting as they appeared in the list. So a vote for “Killer Mike/ Run the Jewels” was added to both Killer Mike as well as Run the Jewels, but a lone vote for Killer Mike just went to him as a solo artist. For the final list this only affected the ranking of indeed Killer Mike and Run the Jewels as well as Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming (which also received votes under Shabaka Hutchings, but he doesn’t appear solo in the final list). Whether this is the right way of handling this is up for debate, but I’m sticking with it.
- Most of the presentation should be clear as what it means, but after “Albums in the AMF EOD Poll” there is always a curious word or sentence followed by the main voter(s). This is for the biggest fan(s) of the artist and the word/ sentence is a song title I thought worked in praise of the artist. Yes, I ripped this off from Moonbeam’s eighties poll. By the way, the biggest fan is either highest rank, or anyone who had said artist in his or her top 10.
- One thing you might miss is a comparison with our artist ranking with the one currently on AM. I initially wanted to include this, but since AM does not include the last two years of the decade yet and has likewise not included the EOD lists I feel that the current list doesn’t represent the critical standing of many artists enough to make this a meaningful inclusion.
I'll do 30 a day, so it will take until Sunday. Let’s start, shall we?
