Albums and Songs of 1977 Poll

Post by Listyguy »

In 1977
I hope I go to heaven
Welcome to the 70s! This month, we will be looking to find the best songs and albums from 1977. If you want to participate, please post a list of your favorite songs and/or albums from that year in this thread. Only the top 20 will be given points, but larger lists are always welcomed and encouraged. On the other end of the spectrum, you need to list at least 5 songs/albums in order for your list to count towards the tabulation.

The top 10 albums and songs from each year will automatically qualify for the final decade poll. Additionally, there will be 50 wild card spots available to the songs and albums that miss the top 10. Wild cards will be determined using the points received in the yearly polls, with the point totals normalized by the number of lists that are submitted in that year. Wild cards also allow songs and albums with unclear release years to receive votes in both years. Points are awarded using this system:

Code: Select all

Rank Points

Both the song and album qualified in the 1976 poll, so I'm going to bump the rest of your lists up.

Quite a year for David Bowie, 1977:

In the winter he came up with “Low” and in the spring “The Idiot” with Iggy Pop. Then came the summer and he made “Lust For Life” (Iggy) and in the autumn “Heroes” was released. Bowie mostly responsible for the music and Iggy for his lyrics. I was thinking if a song or two would have slipped onto his own albums here... "Nightclubbing" on "Heroes" etc.

Memory trick: Low idiot for life - hero.

The amount of great music that Bowie and Brian Eno (often together) either created or contributed to in the mid-to-late 70s is incredible.

The Chain was always my favorite from Rumours too, though Gold Dust Woman does give it a run for its money

Top choice but this is 1978- the source of the confusion might be its inclusion on the US version of 1977's The Clash, which was released in 1979. Not that this placing has any bearing on the results, I'm just highlighting it for others.

...straight after spotting the above, I realised by seeing carlos74's list and checking AM that I'd falsely placed Luxury Liner by Emmylou Harris on my 1976 ballot when it was from '77, so I've not got a leg to stand on!

Nice to see The Babys -- Broken Heart on Slick's album list.

The five songs that I enjoy from the album are:

Isn't It Time
Looking for Love
And If You Could See Me Fly
Rescue Me, and
Give Me Your Love.

Please let us know if there are any others on the album that work for you.

Thanks!
